Firstly instead of radio whats to stop the teams merely 'texting' whatever info to the drivers dashboard, and indeed the driver sending one out of a set of pre programmed questions? How can the stewards know that a message received by the driver saying tyre temp is 30 degrees red 5 is standard info and not a suggestion to warm up tyres by another 5 degrees?

Data transmission from pit to car is specifically prohibited by Article 8.5.2 of the F1 Technical Regulations

Ok but the car , and therefore the driver can send data to the pits, this will be the question side, and the answer side will be coded in the radio message

so driver does 3 clicks of his ERs bias shift pre select button, meaning 'how long before Lewis is in my mirror despite starting last' and the relpy will be 'do not crash into your teammate I will remind you 2 more times) meaning 'start crapping your pants Nico he will be with you in 2 laps'

Could be fun seeing how subtle Ferrari will be this time about breaking the rules 'Kimi, your teammate likes a Pina Colada, do you understand?'

Really good Q&A session from the folks at GPUpdate as to what is and isn't allowed. They're more restrictive than I thought!
Q: Will race control first give a warning if a team goes too far, or will there be an instant sanction?
FIA: With a clear set of guidelines, we see no reason for there to be warnings.

Q: Does Article 20.1 of the Sporting Regulations (stating that a driver must drive the car alone and unaided) only apply to the race or also to practice sessions and qualifying?
FIA: It will apply to the entire event.

Q: Is the message that a driver should come in for a pit-stop a breach of the regulations?
FIA: We think that it would be OK to allow teams to tell drivers when to stop for tyres.

Q: Is a warning that the driver is tight on fuel consumption a breach of the regulations?
FIA: Yes, we believe so. The driver should see that on the dashboard (like a fuel gauge on a road car). *

Q: Are warnings about the condition of the brakes or tyres (slow puncture) still allowed?
FIA: No, this should be displayed to the driver from data gathered onboard, again like a fuel gauge.

Q: Are commands such as SOC 3, MIX 5, FUEL 2 still allowed?
FIA: No, definitely not. This is exactly what we feel infringes Article 20.1.

Q: What about all of the instructions the drivers receive on a formation lap in order to warm up the tyres and brakes, synchronise the gearbox, carry out burnouts and so on?
FIA: None of this would be allowed as again, this is exactly what we feel infringes Article 20.1.

Q: What about team orders (overtake, do not overtake)?
FIA: This should be OK.

Q: What about information regarding traffic in qualifying and the race?
FIA: This will not be a problem.

Q: Will the radio messages of all 22 cars be checked, or just those on the world feed?
FIA: We listen to and record all the conversations.

* Not all the teams race with the new, larger LCD display screens – such as Red Bull, Williams and Lotus – meaning they would have to consider switching or face leaving their drivers with less information.

Maybe the in helmet HUD thing Schumacher was trying out a few years ago might make an appearance if the driver's going to have to keep track of what's going on with the car himself.

Thinking more about the timing of this and it starts to point to maybe an attempt to shake up the order or make other teams more competitive wrt Merc. Lets face it the less reliable car will have much more need of radio comms to talk its drivers through nursing a broken car to some points. And Mercs reliability has been getting worse recently.
But who could have goaded the FIA into this sudden turnaround??? Following the path of who stands to gain most if Merc stand to lose most, as Merc are the best car but with reliability issues we are led to the most reliable car with no peformance

Nah the FIA wouldnt change the rules halfway through the season to help one team, except maybe Ferrari in the past :yikes:

It's been done to shake up the competitive order a bit no doubt but I don't think the FIA have the manpower to police everything over a race distance. Some information is only bound to reviewed after the race and this could potentially lead to a lot of delayed final results. I can see some leeway in the first few races on what is and what isn't allowed.

Who could benefit from the ruling?
It’s hard to pick out who will gain the largest boost from the ban on the grid, but it could favour the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Daniel Ricciardo who enjoy using aggressive tactics to overtake rather than sitting back and calculating when to attack and when to cruise. Both drivers showed a desire to overtake in Monza, and certainly Hamilton’s intention to overtake anyone and everyone would see him throw caution to the wind in trying to get to the front as soon as possible.
Hamilton’s team-mate Nico Rosberg shouldn’t be too effected by the ruling either given the speed of the Mercedes that puts the German manufacturer in a class of its own. With Williams having shown good form this season, their battle with Ferrari could become a one-horse race with this ruling – and unfortunately it’s unlikely to be the Italian stallion running clear. While Fernando Alonso continues to draw praise for his ability to get as much as possible out of the struggling Ferrari F14-T, Kimi Raikkonen simply cannot get to grips with the car and it could very well be a frustrating end of season for the Tifosi.

The adaptable drivers will benefit if you agree with the Independent, special mention for the cruise and collect merchants but I don't see why it should hurt them

This will very likely swing things into Hamilton's favour, we hear Nico getting advice on how to drive quite often, but so does Lewis. But Lewis rarely asks for advice (he just asks which sector he's losing out on the most) whereas Nico has asked for advice quite often.

i have my opinion own it.. the allurement of formula 1 is the hystory...
team as Mercedes,Ferrari,Lotus,McLaren, are the Formula1. And the drivers?
Senna,Prost,Mansell,Lauda,Rindt,Stewart,Clarck........were DRIVERS.Nothing telemetry, elettronics, radio little.....
Now on the formula1,pilots are limited. Who decides all are the pits. strategy, consumer ...
drivers must only comply with the regole.Se do some overtaking are under investigation.
so for me the radio is to be abolished because they do not give a damn what the pilot says, but I'm interested to see the show, the REAL pilot who can drive, manage your machine.
the driver who has more class is Hamilton, but we all know that the mapping, strategy, petrol consumption only decides the box :banghead:
that is all there is to say
:wavey::wavey::rofl:
