I dropped Massa to get Alonso, go figure.

Firstly, I know I have been critical of Hamilton's attitude over the weekend (mainly because of his digs at the drivers PC on Thursday), however, since Friday morning he has been by far the best driver in the field and fully deserved his win. His decision to push after the stop forced Rosberg into a critical error. Great drive after what simply was bad luck at the start (Eddie Jordan at times is a complete idiot with some of his comments and is one of the reasons I watch Sky's coverage).

Also, his performance on the podium should also be commended. He firstly tried to stop the booing as others have mentioned and secondly, when asked by Jean Alesi whether him and Nico were friends he replied "We're team mates and always will be" while putting his arm around Nico. A very nice touch and something I didnt expect him to do. I have no problem being unpopular when criticising Hamilton when in my opinion its warranted, however, when credit is due I will give it. This weekend he deserves it for his ON and OFF track performances.

As for the rest, I was really happy to see Massa on the podium in his first Italian GP since leaving Ferrari - and it was nice to see the Tifosi still love him even in a Williams. Great drives from Bottas and Ricciardo - if they have a capable car they WILL be future WDC's, no doubt about it. Vettel's undercut backfired and if it wasnt for the Perez/Mags/Button/Kimi fight at the end he may have lost more places.

Magnussen was unlucky, I think a penalty was harsh and agree with both Brundle and Davidson - the stewards should have let that one go with their new instructions to be more lenient. Button didnt do as well as he should have but as a person I like him - always seems to have time to chat after a race and love how he joined Davidson on the skypad to go through the Perez battle without appearing to be scheduled to.

Terrible day for Ferrari. Questionable as to where Alonso would have finished (he was right in the battle for 6th when his ERS failed but had no straightline speed) but even Alonso and Ferrari were going to have a failure somewhere and despite the emotional discomfort of having it at Monza, in terms of damage to results it may have been better to get it out of the way at Monza where Alonso was at best going to get a 6th and most likely would have finished 8th or 9th. I think Singapore and possibly Suzuka will suit the Ferrari better.

As for the Championship battle, I still think Hamilton could do with a Red Bull or two getting in between him and Rosberg in the next couple of races because if Hamilton wins with Rosberg 2nd he wont go ahead until after USA, then it will be a 2 race shoot out for the title. I dont think he needs a Rosberg DNF but if Ricciardo or Vettel can get in between them that is an extra 3-6 points Hamilton can get. Rosberg is favourite for me purely because of his 22 point lead and the dominance of the Mercedes, but Hamilton is faster and if he can build some momentum still has time to catch Rosberg. Singapore is a vital race and imo will be tougher for Mercedes as I can see it suiting Red Bull really well.

This is the kind of racing weekend I had imagined we'd see a lot more of this season. Just a nice, normal, relatively pain free drive to the flag.
Hamilton got everything right, Nico got a couple of things wrong. Odd mistake that finally cost him. Nothing like the pressure in Canada,
Hamilton not even in DRS range, and he misses the turn. Like so many races this year, Hamilton had the pace but finally nothing got in the way of that
(small glitch aside). I wouldn't say this gives Hamilton the momentum, he has too much of a defecit, pressure of playing catch-up, and it's too fine a
line between success and failure, for it to be head down and get the championship, but he's finally wrestled away Nico's outside advantages.

I'm still struggling with Mercs approach. They can race, but apparently they can't race until it's deemed appropriate by someone in the pits.
It's like they're saying one thing and doing another, let them race, don't take each other off, but we won't let you race until the last few minutes,
because we don't quite trust you. Good on Hamilton for ignoring that again.

Another great DR drive. I'd love someone to do a breakdown of how he bursts into life in the last third of races. It looked like Vettel finally had
him covered, but that strangely early pit let him down. I don't think Vettel's getting the most from the tyres to allow RB to put him on a decent
strategy.

Another penalty for Mag, not earned this time. Alan Jones said he wouldn't have given it, and he's the race steward for Singapore so we'll see if
he's any more sensible. More fuel for permanent stewards.

Some great wheel to wheel stuff off the podium. I love Perez when he's 'on'.

Nice try, but no he didn't hit a wrong switch, they were trying to rest things from the pits. His 'race start' was reading on when it shouldn't have been. He had no power on the start..not wheel spin..NO POWER. The race mode wasn't working. Ok? and on the topic of starts, Ricciardo's was poor, very poor. I'm not wanting to take anything from Ricci here, because he drove a brilliant race! I'm just wanting to help you take off the anti Hamilton glasses and see what actually happened in the race,

I guess we are both having misconceptions about what happened. It wasn't a lack of power, it was too much and Hamilton couldn't control it.

Nin-Chin had posted this earlier and I hadn't seen it until now.

His start mode wasn't working properly so he couldn't get the correct start. The start mode that failed helps you get the correct revs for the start so Lewis got loads of wheelspin.

"It was a difficult race. For whatever reason, the start, there was a bug in the sequence. On the formation lap, it didn't work and then I thought I'll just put it on for the race. On the grid I put it on and it just didn't work - very, very strange, we've never had that happen before. I tried to pull away as fast as possible but the RPM was all over the place. Fortunately I managed to not lose too many places.

"We never practised a start like that where we don't have the launch sequence in, so I had no idea what I had to do and so just floored it and hoped for the best. After that I had a good battle with Felipe and he was very fair through the corner."

So with out his traction/start mode software being turned on Lewis didn't know what to do and wasn't able to get traction off the line on his own, flooring it and spinning the tires.

doing the same thing twice is unforgiveable.

I agree with this and kind of had the same thought this morning. Hamilton has lost championships while in contention and rosberg hasn't been in that situation before. At least rosberg didn't have a big off like webber did in korea 2010. The thought of that still hurts

I suspect it could have been and that we should consider it a breath of fresh air when posts get to a level of realism and detail that can only be expressed by careful thought and long posts and not the usual one line half baked or completely unbaked idiocy that is the mainstay of newspapers like the sun, Mail, Mirror and their internet forum equivalents.

It goes like this 'lets put as little effort into truth or facts and pander to the lowest common denominator for some cheap titillation. Ofcourse I am not demanding everyone take car and put effort into expressing opinions but I am saying those that prefer to do so be able to without the moaners and censors and 'morality police' looking to drag everyone else to a basic FUNDAMENTAL level

i'm sorry for ferrari's Alonso e Kimi, they aren't a fast car, on the monza gp is very important the speed, Williams's Massa and Bottas were very fast on the straights.

I actually thought Lewis made 1 big mistake, he let Nico off too lightly. Anyone with a cerebral tactical mind should have been aware Nico doesnt much like it when he has Lewis behind - so Lewis should have only put the pressure on at places where Nico cracking would have caused a dnf. To put pressure on before the chicane let Nico off the hook. I was screaming at Lewis for being so stupid.

And then he compounded the mistake by pulling away, he really should have let Nico back in front then gave him another 5 laps of gearbox psychoanalysis - this is likely to have caused a properly spooked and unhinged Nico to drive off track permanently - his subconscious mind shutting down and refusing to race on

I mean whats the point of pulling away? to show the world you are 0.3 seconds quicker in a faulty car than your teammate? should THINK more and act instinctively LESS
