Wasn't the whole indy race because Ferrari complained that America was their biggest market. So what better way to get your name big in America than to assist an American team.

Nth America is definitely Ferrari's biggest market. Historically the team has done well with this sort of US team relationship. NART probably the most famous because the team raced as NART in the final 2 races when Surtees won the 64 championship for Ferrari. So in fact those Ferrari's in those 2 races were painted blue and white. NART also won the 65 Le Mans for Ferrari and headed home a famous Ferrari 1-2-3 in that race. There was also a model of Ferrari that carried NART as part of the name.
The potential for a successful North American Ferrari racing team is huge, and I'm sure both Ferrari and Haas know that.

Chasing Classic Cars had a NART Ferrari 275 GTB featured on an episode last season. They gave a really good overview of the history and involvement of NART.
