More frustrating for Hamilton would be that Rosberg put in a poor drive. There was absolutely no excuses today, just a reason, for Nico not to cruise to a win.
Not only his motivation for taking Hamilton out, that cost him outright pace for a third of the race, but flat spotting his tyres which cost another third, to losing
places to other cars because he can't judge a situation. Half the time he drove so poorly I started wondering if a car that qualifies a second or two faster is
actually that good.

I read that piece earlier this morning, and it's a sensible approach.

Now is not the time for calm heads though. Let misplaced passion and irrational anger rule.

You could see it that way, it's "nice". It also happens to be wrong.

Nico has 7 poles and only four wins.
Nico has yet to overtake his teammate on track... once. He's had many cracks at it, but has yet to be able to do it.
Monaco was questioned by drivers up and down the grid. The misterious lock up and then the "baffling" decision to back out and park it in the middle of the track.

So here comes today, Nico claims he's faster yet gets beaten to turn one by his teammate before turn one. He's behind him the entire first lap, he gets overtaken by Vettel and tries a kamikaze move on his teammate, similar to the same move Vettel tried, and there was no way to pull it off. Nice claims he was side by side, yet that's not the case clearly in the video replays. So calm heads should prevail and once again gift Nico with the benefit of the doubt. That's nice.

Here's the deal, it wasn't premeditated, but it was calculated, it was a calculated risk he was willing to take, because he had everything to gain and Lewis had everything to lose. The worst case scenario had already been realized. He was going to come in 2nd place to his teammate. So he at worst loses a wing, his teammate at worst gets taken out of the race. Nico didn't flinch at the option before him. He was leaving Spa with an 11 point lead at worst, and a 36 point lead at best. So he did very well for himself. "he could have avoided crashing but didn’t [in order to] make a point.” what point was he trying to prove?

So let's all be calm because, you know since we can't seem to find fault in what Lewis did. Let's find fault in how the Lewis fans react to the situation.

It must suck rooting for mediocre drives in shitty cars. But to each their own I guess.

There's absolutely zero reason to say that mercedes would have had a 'cruise' to a 1-2 result, case in point being that vettel was already up hamilton's @$$ at the kemmel straight. Red bull took all their rear wing off and still had ok downforce in the turns. Vettel had the better of both drivers up through the kemmel straight.

And to say nico's worst case scenario was "already realized" and that he was going to come 2nd to his teammates as if it is a fact is daft. As soon as vettel mucked it up and was out of rosberg's way, rosberg was already on hamilton's heels by the final chicane. It would have been game on all race if rosberg hadn't done silly sh1t.

Oh do calm down, old chap, it was meant to be light hearted. However, whilst being angry is understandable calling for bannings and the such, as some fans have, is a bit OTT.

Much weight is being put on so few words from everyone involved. There's a lot of innuendo, conjecture and extrapolation being bandied about.

You're all working yourselves into a frenzy. A bit like Hamilton driving back to the pits (joke. sort of. seriously, it looked like a catherine wheel).

Rosberg just isn't a very good driver, so needs to resort to this kind of nonsense to beat Lewis.

It shouldn't really be allowed imo. Rosberg should be sacked.

If no action is taken, many will turn off F1 imo.
Nothing but a joke sport if this kind of thing is allowed to go on.

I don't think for 1 second that people will no longer watch F1 because of yesterday. If anything it will bring more people in. Now there is a perceived Heel in the story.

It could be cold tyre temps and it's sometimes better to be the following driver during the first few laps which would've helped Vettel. We know once the Mercs got going they were difficult to match. Rosberg effectively sacrificed a front wing change and found traffic a few times but still finished close to Ricciardo. I agree it would've been close between Hamilton and possibly come down to who kept their tyres in better shape.

Fair enough. It is nice to have a benchmark with 300 lbs of fuel on board and they'd probably have had more options strategy wise with the superior car

 dude, really, ONE incident...the first time in the season and a half they've been teammates and you just want the guy sacked immediately. This is why hamilton and his camp are losing.

and BS about turning fans off of F1...this is why I, and probably a lot of other people, watch this sport. Not just the speed but the drama that comes with top drivers in top teams duking it out all year
