It's not diminishing returns, it's just different. MS, Loeb and Rossi didn't appear to lose it. Maybe Scheckter felt he'd reached the pinacle and was happy with that. Or recognises that certain drivers only get one or two realistic chances, and taking one of them is as satisfying to them as winning four on the trot. It's the love of racing and then maybe the championship for some. If you're in the position your juices get flowing, and that only comes once you're in the fight, the rest is a bit of wishful thinking, frustration, and mostly doing the job at hand.

...I honestly don't care which one wins as neither are in a Ferrari. All I hope is we have a fair and exciting final 8 races with plenty of drama (and that Alonso takes the chequered flag once or twice ).

Geet has a thing against top dogs in a team....which is why he loved Webber when Webber was losing to a top dog....and which is why he now loves Nico, where odds are heavily stacked against him winning the WDC DESPITE leading the WDC....

And also why he loves Maldonado since any driver pitted against the Maldo automatically becomes top dog.

I do love the underdogs!! Realistically I always preferred rosberg over hamilton. I never had anything against hamilton until this season when his fans just endlessly bleated about how great a one time WDC six years ago is. I mean so few people acknowledged that rosberg would even remotely possess the capability of challenging hamilton at all I was just like wtf At that point I immediately gravitated towards rosberg just because I'm a troll at heart and would love to see such flagrant fanaticism put down as hard as possible. I'd even go as far as rooting for vettel to see the deed done. So I guess it's not even anything against him, just his fanbase, so that officially gives me the title of 'hater' case in point, when nico passed kimi in hungary, hamilton fans be like "ZOMG HE ALMOST HIT HIM WHAT IS HE DOING" and in germany when hamilton hit two other drivers going into the turn 4(?) hairpin at the end of the back straight hamilton fans be like "ZOMG CHAMPIONS DRIVE!!"

About vettel, I just outright never liked the guy from the beginning. He (and travis pastrana, even tho he has nothing to do with F1) just reminds me of somebody who I probably would have picked on until the point of suicide in junior high. I just don't like his face. About hamilton, I've never liked people who are "heart on my sleeve" in affect from the get go, but I did root for him (and just about anybody) who could beat vettel over the last four years.

I like maldonado too just cuz he's the guy everybody hates. Kinda like kanye west. I used to really hate kanye west until everybody else started hating him for what he did to taylor swift, and then I was like THIS GUY

In essence, I'm just kind of an @$$hole I guess so watching maldonado ruin peoples' day and making millions of people cry just fills my heart with joy. Even when he took perez out in silverstone in 2012. Brought a tear of troll joy to my eye!!
