I'd say hateability is a big factor in marketability. After all his detractors are responsible for a big chunk of his page clicks, forum posts and column inches. They are even more obsessed than the fans, I'd say they discuss him more than they do the other drivers put together :hehe:

Doesn't take too much more to see, some don't even support anyone! Just are "fans" for the hate fest. Different strokes I guess.

And, then there are those who don't bother with social media (pro or con).
And, then there are those who only respond in forums (pro or con).
And, then there are those who really don't care either way.

Lewis and Alonso are the 2 highest paid drivers on the grid, ultimately this is the capitalist manifestation of marketability. We can talk about Massa or anyone else being at the top of some list or the other, or what constitutes marketability or popularity. But even more than with talent there cannot be any argument against tha one that says the drivers who get paid the most are the most marketable - marketable could be skills, how fast, how many fans, blah blah

Money talks and in this case I suspect if Massa really was the top of some list he would be paid accordingly, just like if Lewis did not add more to Mercs bottom line than Nico he would be paid less

Companies like Santander dont spend money based on some poll of 13,000 people

This is an updated list if F1 salaries. Kimi and Vettel have received salary rises putting them above Lewis, who is now fourth. Nico R will likely get a rise having just renewed his contract for many years.
And what a bargain Ricciardo is!!!! :yikes: I'd say he's in line for a rise if Vettel is on 22K . 22K for Vettel !!:yikes: a rise of 10 mil. Well that was worth it Christian! :hehe:
I'm still mind boggled that Jenson sits in fifth place, and he had a rise! :banghead:
the number in brackets is what they earned last year.
It was published by the judge ( who also gives some comment on the salaries) and is taken from the Business Book GP who have just published the annual salaries.
