Why don't they trust Dorethy Lowe or Toto to do that?

What be a badass? Lowe's too small and Tooti is too 'nice' and politically correct. Though I suspect a steely under layer to Toto !

Paddy continuing with the talking head role after Toto got reined in.

Thing is the more I hear paddy talk the more the Mclaren years come into mind. Who did Paddy learn his new 'team boss' persona from? I seem to remember that when Ron was about he was less pitwall than Fry, maybe I am mistakened.

I hope I am because that would mean Paddy has learnt his pit wall role from the lummox of a girly wet blanket stood next to Sam Micheal :yikes::yikes:

Ross, you proved your point, please come back, maybe Claire could be poached from Williams :scratchchin:

Lowe is no where near as assertive and decisive as Ross, and I always found him a bit passive at McLaren. What's more worrying is that Mercedes actually tried to get Whitmarsh before settling for Paddy. Both are largely responsible for the current mess at McLaren.

It is a worry. The woolly thinking. The lack of decisiveness. I mean, they had Ross and they tried to get Whitmarsh???? Who exactly came up with that brain fade?? It makes putting a driver on the wrong strategy pale into insignificance.

We dont know the details about Mercs hiring concept. We do know that in the Mclaren/Merc partnership Ron wore the trousers until he was forced to leave F1. And we do know that Merc enjoyed some pay back for the 1 sided McLaren deal. Chances are they would have hired the tea lady if she would be missed by Ron. Its possible they were thinking of hiring a giggling lummox just to disturb certain sponsors etc

there is absolutely no hint that they wanted any lame ducks in what is now Totos role. ever since Ross pocketed 100mill from Merc after 2009 he was always looking to make like a bandit and go off with his fortune. Merc had him locked down to remain on board as part of the purchase agreement, when that was over they would expect him to be off. and now they have a younger guy with skin in the game to replace him called Toto, makes a lot of business sense. Why keep an aeging Ross who has no equity and likes to be boss when you can have someone you can trust 100% because he is a part owner

The fact Ross is 1000x better at the F1 game is irrelevant, He would only be of use to Merc if he had a stake and could be trusted to be there forever

Yeah I guess that makes sense. I actually like Toto I just think he lacks experience. Mind you I 'liked' Whitmarsh in the very early days before he revealed how totally inept and besotted he was. I wonder...when whoever it was at Merc and for whatever reason, made a play for Whitmarsh, if he told them he only comes with a certain driver :hehe::hehe: Er, not Lewis :P

I failed to see why Paddy was so sought after by Mercedes, what's his track record? I can't see it.

And now his own track record at Mercedes is starting off with the fastest car and 90% bullet proof....and at midway just about the fastest car, 50% bullet proof.

Is it just his Toto buddy who convinced the Merc board? Or is there really something so special about Paddy that it was seen as a big blow for McLaren to lose him?

Having a stakeholder run the commercial side of things makes sense and that's effectively what Toto's doing. When an organisation is keen to modernise like the way Mercs were, sometimes getting rid of the old guard is the best way forward. But beyond his pleasantness, I'm just not sure Mercs got the right guy to run their technical department but what do I know. Quite simply there are too many hands in the pot at the team, when you factor in Lauda and Zetsche, and I guess this is what irked Ross the most. Like Ron, he's from the school of thought of having total control over racing matters.
