Paddy has been pushed to become more accountable and prominent in his role, instead of leaving stuff to Toto. So he is just trying to assert himself as a 'responsible' and 'respected' part of Brawns replacement 'team'

Why does Paddy have to be the mouth piece at Mercedes? Lauda and Toto talk enough between them

The judge again, I'm sorry! speaking this time in non too complimentary terms about Paddy Lowe. ( you see Tifosi! it's not only your red cras he has a go at).

I'm not sure I'm completely with the Judge on this one but there is some sense in what he says. Ross would never have delivered that stupid team order.....but whatever order he had issued would have been respected.

And the Merc, like the 2012 McLaren has costly unreliability creeping in. Hope I'm wrong here and it's just a coincidence.

Maybe with the other teams now starting to push the Mercedes a bit more (or even Mercedes making mistakes that mean they have to push a bit more) we are now seeing them as fragile as they are getting failures that all the other team have already gone through getting their cars up to speed.

Brawn is missed. IMO it's no coincidence that the reliability has suffered after his absence.

Brawn is definitely missed! A safe pair of hands. Mercedes biggest mistake by a long shot in my opinion was letting Brawn go..

Toto and Paddy are a manifestation of the Peter principle and just like Toto is weak with the drivers (Nico mainly) Paddy is appearing to be weak with maybe the different engineer factions all looking for glory and numbers etc, and it does sound worryingly similar to Mclaren

I also dont agree with the judge here that paddy is arrogant etc, more he has been pushed into becoming more of a presence and is out of his depth, I remmeber we always speculated about how much they would miss Ross on the strategy and driver management side and who was gonna make the calls

well it seems like so far it was Totos rules of engagement set in stone etc, but now they gonna make it more free and Paddy is gonna be doing a direct Ross role hes never done and only ever had a muppet to watch

this could end in some tears, lets just hope the cars margin is big enough to cover :yikes:

Yep. I'm worried about Paddy making the calls. I wasn't when it was Ross. Not to say he got it right every time but he mostly did, and you felt if Toss got it wrong chances are most would have got it wrong.

I can see what the Judge meant by saying Paddy was arrogant.....it did come over a little like that to me. It sounded a bit, 'forget Ross, I'm doing this now'. Fair enough, yes he is, but Ross has massive history ...and success....and he built that team to where they are, that was his work, his vision, his selection of engineers. It's not wise to be even slightly dismissive of him. On Paddy's side ...he needed to make a stand. On the Facebook pages there was comment after comment that Ross wouldn't have made that team order call, wouldn't have had Lewis on the slower strategy (having seen how the race panned out) and wouldn't have had 'panic on the pit-wall'. So he had to stand up for himself I guess.

I agree with your sentiments Cookie re the performance gap. Let's hope it's enough to cover ' other things' . Seems Lewis had had the downside so far. Let's also hope that evens out.
But this is a worry for the future. They may not have the performance gap next year , and then you need a Ross.

That's pretty much what I was thinking. I think I'll have to let the situation play itself out over the remainder of the year to have a solid opinion on lowe, toto, and lauda's running of the team.

Lauda doesn't run the team, only paddy and toto. They sound like a muppet show at a third rate seaside promenade

Non executive director( is I think the official name) Originally a go between for the race team and the Mercedes Benz board. Again, I think that's it. And of course he brings the perspective of someone who has raced .
