There are quite a few racing drivers following in their fathers footsteps. I thought this might be a good thread to talk about them collectively in the summer break, compare them to their fathers, compare them to each other. Have they got into the sport because of the name? Is their presence justified? Etc etc.

Off the top of my head we have Graham Damon Hill( I believe Damon's son has packed in motor racing)

Nico Rosberg of course.

There are the Villeneuves. No comparison in my mind of the talent there between father and son.

There's Johnathan Palmer's son doing really well in GP2,

And interestingly Freddie Hunt is after sponsorship to recommence his racing after giving up in 2009. He's 26, so getting on a bit to start seriously. He will be competing against Lauda's son Matthias.

I am AMAZED how like James he looks.

There is of course a gaggle of Brabhams, with David even driving for his dads team.
One of my absolute favorites, Alberto Ascari's dad, Antonio, was also a great GP driver, but in the pre F1 age. Both tragically died doing what they loved.

For me Damon Hill showed the most "grit" discounting any benefits of the heritage. NP jr the opposite maybe

Crashing into a barrier to keep your seat shows plenty of grit to me. :hehe:

Did you read this I wrote a while back? The article about superstitions and racing drivers? The stuff at the end about Ascari was really creepy

Damon initially was determined not to follow his father into car racing and went his own way with motor bikes, then the cars called him and his mum paid for a racing drivers course. But he was quite old by that time to be starting a car racing career. He really did brilliantly against Schumacher who had been in carts since he was about 5. Amazing natural talent!

His natural ability came out when he was confronted by MS and I reckon he shut up all the doubters on track at Arrows especially. Compared to Nelsinho and others that underused their eased passages into F1, I think he out did his. Nico is perhaps exactly where his passport reaches.

Red Bull have just signed 16 year old son of Vestappen ( Jos the boss :D ) to their young drivers programme.

The only two things I remember about Jos "The Boss" is:

1) Drove an Arrows
2) Crashed out Montoya right after being lapped
