After having a look at next year's regulations in the aerodynamics, I am really looking forward to next season's cars. The key regulations that stand out for me are the higher rear wings (and slightly narrower), lower front wings, banning of winglets, wider cars and slicks. Taking all of these into account we will probably see the cars take similar shapes to those we saw (and loved) from the early 90's. Also it'll be good to see some more overtaking action again, and perhaps more daring maneuverer's - especially in corners.

The only thing missing as I said in another thread just now is a nice big 3.5/3 Litre engine, especially a V10 or a V12. It would really add to the prospect of a new age for F1.

Is there any pictures yet of what the car will look like?
I read that Schumi was testin the Ferrari in 09 spec at Barcelona, but the car looked unchanged in terms of aerodynamics. Surely they will remove them.
I mean from a far F1 cars are works of art, but up close those winglets seem to spoil the look of the car. I mean take the front of that BMW this year. There's beauty and there's racing... I know which one i'd rather have.

From what I understand, the teams ran simulations of 2009 downforce levels (which they can calculate using their super computers) - those simulated downforce levels however can be achieved in various ways...

bud told me that they used the Monza setup to simulate the 09 aero regulations.

Yes, that's very possible and explains why the winglets were still attached.

some teams tested as close to possible the 09 regs, removing the winglets and McLaren even tested Monza like front & rear wings while Ferrari removed everything including the barge boards, infact the Ferrari looked pretty sleek without all the winglets and especially without the bargeboards. but from what i could see they still ran 08 front and rear wings. This was all done on the slicks, unlike some teams testing slicks with 08 aero.

I agree with you. In my view, Formula One from the mid-1980s to mid-'90s was the heyday of the sport. Some of what I think should have been done a lot time ago is starting to be implemented. The main thing was to stop cars relying so much on aerodynamic grip, for that meant the dirty air from the leading car affected the performance of the car following, which removed any chance of overtaking. The cars have also come to look awful. The only thing that worried me was the talk of moving wings, which I think are unnecessary, over-complicating the situation, and will cost a reasonable amount.

I think some of the people on there posting about winglets don't really understand what they do to the airflow. Sure, you might think they look nice, but they have a negative effect on the guy behind you. And they're quite ugly, in my opinion

The people on there who seem to like winglets are probably sculpturers or statue makers who love bits poking out.

DC doesnt think that the new Regs will do anything.
He been questioning the safety again. Check his latest itv f1 column.

He is becoming more of a cranky old whinger all the time, he now even complains about the stitching in his HANS device and will next be complaning his "holeproof" underwear's either the wrong colour or too tight.

Is there an "Aerodynamics for Dummies" book out there? They do these books for just about everything these days aside from "Making a Cup of Tea for Dummies". Mind you I might be wrong on that one.

LOL you have to laugh at DC sometimes. The way Sniff Petrol take the piss outta him is classic.

Bt yeah, I think the tyre warmers is cause for concern, but surely not the aero regs... he argues about the slower cars still being at the back. Well with the engine/gearbox pens etc we could see many top drivers at the back of the grid this year and with the 08 regs wont pass slower cars cause they generally can't due to the air effect...

The slower cars will ALWAYS be at the back. It's not as if you ever saw a Coloni/Pacific/Simtek/Forti/EuroBrun/Life leading a race, we've seen a Spyker leading a race though.
