Alonso can pull it off admirably...and hes fast.

Any takers? Anyone? No? Shame.

I think that's RC being extremely complimentary.

She used to be an Alonso fan back in the days with blue shirt and all

Briefly DD, briefly!! I was just waiting for Lewis. But I WAS being complimentary! He can do very sneaky things without batting an eyelid and next to Lewis he's the best driver, so that's a compliment

Well, your avatar was in a blue shirt for years!!!

That's because it had Senna in the background.

It was quite sweet the way Nico was mashing all those buttons like a game of Space Invaders, pleeding with the pits to help him.

No, actually it was desparate and a bit sad. You could feel in that moment his chamionship optimism slip away.

As much as I crap on about Lewis' yips, I think Nico hadn't had the misfortune that would let reality hinder his expectations.

Lmfao nico asking his team (instead of whining like hamilton would have done) to help him get to the end of the race isn't desperate. Thanks for the LAUGH!

Now now Geet, don't get shirty just because your boy did a bit of crying and his car broke. He can't have everything go his way now can he

[geetface9]

lol I know what you're saying but if nico asking his team to help him just get to the end is "crying" then

Horses for courses Geet, horses for courses!!!

I was more surprised he was allowed to sit there for that long period of time, trying to restart the car with the marshals all the while the rest of the people on the track would have had to be careful around the yellow flags. The car was broke, get out and let people race.

[geetface9]

I was hoping his car would restart like vettel's did in austria

[Hammer278]

I was hoping his car would restart like vettel's did in austria

I was hoping his gearbox held up until Lewis overtook him.

And I would've liked him to finish the race to keep the new 1-2 streak, but Lewis is owed 2 and he's got 1. Now they're on level terms I don't want either car to have issues. But the Merc is not reliable, that's for sure.

[CookinFlat6]

Merc tend to have reliability issues in the first season or so of introducing a new engine, then it becomes bullet proof for years after. Everyone always said this first year of the hybrids would include unreliability and thats what we are seeing from the front runners. Its no coincidence that those that focussed on reliability and have had no problems are no where near the front - Ferrari have good reliability but the car is not that good, Mercs car is brilliant and they have had 3 dnfs out of 16 chances

Its cleverer to try make a fast car reliable than to make a reliable car fast

[Ferrari man 009]

Its cleverer to try make a fast car reliable than to make a reliable car fast

Disagree completely, no point being 4 seconds a lap faster if you cant finish. The saying "to finish first, first you have to finish" comes to mind. Look at McLaren in 2005 for example, they had a faster and more unreliable car than Renault. Who won? The slower, more reliable car took BOTH championships.

[Denthúl]

Outright pace is much harder to find than reliability.

No, no, no, its easy to misunderstand that statement of fact

It should say its cleverest to make a fast and reliable car bullet proof than it is to make a bullet proof car fast

The adage of 'to finish first first you have to finish' is not a fact but an adage which should read 'to finish first, first you have to finish, and ahead of all the other finishers'

to finish first first you have to finish, but not if others are faster AND also finish

Merc and Ferrari this year are perfect examples of this - Ferrari are bullet proof but are mid grid, Merc are fantastically fast but not as reliable - now heres the clever bit - the not as reliable part is reliable enough to have gained 3x the points and the regs allow parts to be changed for better reliability, they DONT allow parts to be changed for performance

So which is more clever?

[What's Burning?]

Money's on Lewis.

GPUpdate 2008 Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton has said he will be in 'attack mode' when F1 heads to Germany next week.

Hamilton took a dominant victory in the British Grand Prix on Sunday and with his Mercedes team-mate and championship leader, Nico Rosberg retiring - due to a gearbox problem - the Englishman has now closed right in, slashing the gap to just four points.

"We will draw a line under that last nine races now and now it is attack mode, start again and now [it is all about] utilizing that pace and utilizing the car's pace," he said.

"There are still some things we need to improve on. I wasn't too worried about the time lost in the pit stop today as I knew the next one would be better. I'd been working on my position so I didn't lose time in that but qualifying really - just getting myself back to my normal qualifying mode and that, I think, will be good."

Hamilton's mistake in Q3 on the Saturday was his second in as many races and he knows that is something he can ill afford to keep doing.

"Saturday was a real kick in the balls. I really had to pick up, pull up my socks and get on it [after that]. If I want to win this world championship I can't have situations like that. The last two races I've easily had the pace to be on pole position and I've not put it there. I've put it much further back, made it much harder for myself, but now I'm going to try to rectify that for the future," he vowed.

The German Grand Prix next up will be Rosberg's home race, but Hamilton added that isn't something that worries him.

"Going into Germany, to Hockenheim, I know whilst it's Nico's home Grand Prix, he doesn't have even one eighth of the support us Brits get here [at Silverstone]. The fans here are unlike anywhere else so I'm not worried in that sense.

"It's a track where I won before [too], in 2008 I think it was. It's a good track for me, so I think I'm gonna use the pace that I have, because I have the pace.

"I've just got to put the damn laps together and when I do, then I think the opportunities will come in front of me," he added.

Fair point, but being not as fast and reliable has won drivers WDCs in the past (Rosberg 1982, Prost 1986, Senna 1991, Alonso 2005 and arguably Hamilton 2008 to name 5 examples, there may be more but i'd need to analyse deeper).
