Er..excuse me!! Quote Racechick "maybe it's because he did drive well on Sunday"!!

It's funny how Button gets no love from this forum, it's always he's rubbish, a lame duck when he doesn't do so well and when he does do well; it's so he should, he's the most experienced driver on the grid... Jenson drove well to fourth place at Silverstone in an under performing car!

What from 3rd on the grid?

The one good thing you have to acknowledge about Jenson is that he may be called a lazy useless driver by some most of the time, but when given a kick up the arse by his boss around contract extension time boy can he pull his finger out and get noticed during a race

To be honest mate I have given up saying what I think about Button because it starts the usual argument. Sadly I believe we have lost a lot of forumites due to same old rehashed blurb.

I'll add once again, he drove well yesterday!!! credit where it's due! :banghead::banghead: As two other people who are not generally over impressed by him have also just said. If people have left the forum because they don't like other people's views well that's an sad indictment on them. Fight for your guy, don't give up on him! Would I give up on Lewis? Not on your nelly!!!

There's always something slightly anonymous about Button. I'm not knocking, and I don't really understand people's dislike of him but every time he does well I'm always surprised because he doesn't make any obvious statements on the track. Even when BAR and Honda gave him a half decent car it was a surprise to see him up there, even his '11 performance. You wonder where he came from.

You just defined the essence of the cruise and collect. Once in a blue moon Jenson is actually motivated to try and go beyond textbook C&C and to actually try to gain a place by driving fast while the race is still going on. I am not sure if it was his race engineer or Ron, maybe Ron standing behind his engineer, but he only started chasing ricc when urged to do so on radio. Why didnt he charge after Ricc earlier? 1 more lap I would have had him? but surely RBR knew the race distance and thats why it was that close at the end.
Theres nothing wrong with a driver liking to remain in his comfort zone but you gotta wonder how bad that McLaren really is, if jenson drove like that each race this year I am sure we wouldnt think the car was that bad afterall

'11 especially, I think I described the Mclaren team having a tortoise and a hare driver line up at the time.

 Totally agree!!

However, there are times when you have to back off,
even if you don't back down.

Most Jenson fans are pretty sensible and rational, and then there are those that aren't. But the same can be said about most. I think people have left in equal measures, not just Jenson fans, people come and go for different reasons, lack of time, lack of interest, they grow out of things and moved on. But to say that they've left because of a certain group of people is IMO a pretty lame excuse.

As RC said, if you believe in something then argue your point, are consistent in your positions present facts to back up your point or just state up front that you've based your support only because of something completely subjective and you'll be left alone and maybe even respected.

If you can't do the above and follow the pretty straight forward guidelines, well there's been many fans of many drivers not just Jenson's that have left voluntarily or with assistance from the mod team because they were miserable humans unworthy of our collective company and rays of sunshine and joy that we bring to the F1 discussions every GP weekend.

and that's all I believe is worth saying on that topic.
