Alonso must have taken into consideration who was behind him and his public lack of regard for the man, and pushed the boundaries more than normal. It felt like a tussle of honour, despite being in a slower car on older tyres. He must have thought, now pretend you're Petrov and Vettel is me...

I forgot which announcer in the NBC crew said it, but it made me laugh out loud. Vettel sounds like he wants to call daddy to complain.

Yeah, Alonso's no backmarker to be bullied, no cucumber. He's more like the golden schlong.

Once Vettel calmed down he was funny with his 'Another one' remarks though.

And I have to say "I’m not sure about the resolution of the Ferrari mirrors, but according to his complaints it must be awesome." is the quote of the weekend.

Why is only Vettel being slammed here? Wasn't Alonso equally vocal and whinging away about DRS usage and track limits and what not?

The DRS what an I have no clue moment what he was talking about. Perhaps he thought like Ferrari has had DRS issues in the past where he was able to deploy it when he shouldn't have. That Red Bull had that same... "problem". :hehe:

But Vettel, lap after lap was over the line and apparently Charlie had warned the drivers not to exceed the boundaries of the track specifically on that spot. So although I applaud the choice to let them race, the inconsistency in how the rules are applied is baffling. Let's be honest though, 3/4 of the fun in that duel was listening to Vettel's radio comments. If only Alonso had just stayed quiet and let his driving be the only statement necessary. It was the second best example of defense of a position this year.

It was specifically issued for the quali and they did cancel lap times if it happened, pretty much every time. Which makes sense: in quali such transgressions have a direct impact on the grid position, so a substantial advantage and there's no pressure from other drivers unlike during the race when they duel each other directly. So, I think they are more lenient during the race as opposed to during quali.

Light years when you factor in 26 laps worth of fuel.

not really: who knows what the lap times were for SV around lap 26? So, you need to provide more info.

I understand the math in your argument but you can't defy the laws of physics in factoring in the weight it takes to run the car for half a race distance. So I doubt the Red Bulls were putting in the same time with about 50 more kilos of fuel on board.

True, but there's also the factor of preserving tires, saving fuel, etc., at different times during the race.
In your logic, LH should have been cruising at 1:36 lap times towards the end of the race, but he didn't for good reasons.

Yes, what happened to Nico and that frankly he didn't NEED to.
