I think Lewis has cracked a bit mentally. Austria was a bit of a one-off, or so we thought.

This time it seemed he was desperately trying to convince himself and the team that it was not worth a try in the end...and the team told him to let Nico through. Why didn't he just go ahead and do the bloody lap like everyone else did?

Shows to me Lewis is not comfortable with Nico's speed now, especially in qualifying. If he had no fear he would've just done the SOP, go for the last lap since the tyres are going into the bin anyway. It was a strange qual, but your WDC rival is going for the lap, why the f**k would you abort your chance? Not at all wise. This doesn't show a lack of intelligence to me though, more of fear.

The WDC is now harder than ever. And Nico's earned every bit of what he's got except for the sh!t he pulled in Monaco, that's worth a potential 14 points max (reverse 1-2). If he gets the WDC, the Lewis bashers are going to have a field day.....even as a Lewis supporter I was shouting !DIOT when I heard from Crofty that Lewis had let Nico through.

What was the point of that exercise? You don't have to worry about tyres, you know the track's changeable, anything can happen so push 'til the end... unless you're Hamilton because apparently he threw the I Ching and it said, Chill, sector 3 will deliver much standing water.

Still, it could have been worse. The Finger almost made a comeback.

If you're going round a track and forget to remember that sector 3 was drying out then it's rather easy.
While being in a slower sector 1 and 2, in all likelyhood you're going to be slower in sector 3, it's not that much of a big mistake, Ferrari and Williams made MUCH bigger mistakes today.

You're letting media take too much influence, he's not cracked at all just think about it logically like I said to Yoruba if you're going slower in sector 1 and sector 2 and you can't find any grip... in all likeyhood you wont find any in sector 3, it's a small mistake forgetting how big the track is, how our weather plays out and a lapse in concentration.

Obviously you're not going to be comfortable with your teammate being fast, but Hamilton has been faster most of the time this weekend and his long run pace was significantly better than Rosberg. It's definitely not a fear, lack of intelligence or anything remotely close to how you're thinking.

So far throughout this season Hamilton has been the better driver just had two unfortunate retirements and sure hes made a few mistakes but so has everyone else. He'll claw back some points and show Rosberg who's boss on some tracks just like Rosberg will show him on some. They're both amazing drivers and Rosberg did amazing today.

Tracks are changeable but for sure and the weather was changing all the time, how was he supposed to know that sector 3 was dry, they were all down on the first and second sectors, aborting wasn't that big of a mistake sure he should of pushed to the end and never gave up but maybe he didn't want to waste his engine, gearbox...etc or maybe he didn't want to throw it in the wall. It's not as big of a mistake as people are making it out to be, it's a mistake sure, a silly one sure, big consequences sure but we're all human. We're entitled to make mistakes.

I wonder what some would have said if Hamilton was behind Rosberg and it was Rossy slowing Hammy down in the hope that he wouldn't get a final lap in....

Bizzare qualifying, Lewis looked like he's just been told he's banned from F1 for life or something, chin up mate you're starting 6th in a dominant car, last race you started 9th and was 4th by the end of the first lap...

Perhaps what DC said before the quali was correct, Lewis and Nico are very different people in terms of the train of thought each has and Lewis is just more emotional (We knew this already) which could either spur him on for the race tomorrow or become a hindrance tomorrow.

I love hearing the crowd over the sound of these engines, something that was clear in Melbourne, Montreal and also here today, with both Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button.

But what an extraordinary qualifying session! Unbelievable that Lewis Hamilton let it slip from his grasp in such a fashion! Kimi Raikkonen may have been customarily uncommunicative with the press, but that was nothing compared to Lewis with the BBC afterwards.

Ferrari and Williams also made terrible calls today, big thumbs up to McLaren, Force India and Marussia for calling it right!

Ferrari made a huge mistake and paid the price; but, in the end, to err is human.

Unfortunately, for him, the glaring difference between the two is that Hamilton has more to lose!

What a gift from Hamilton pulling over and giving Rosberg an undefended try at pole. Good job by Rosberg reading the improving track conditions on his outlap.

And why did Hamilton decide to go first on the final run? If he had gone last as is traditional when sitting in provisional pole he could have been able to respond to any threat. It makes no sense to me what his strategy was.

I found it amusing that before quali that Mark Hughes said on Sky F1 that Williams and Ferrari where nip and tuck in the order of things this weekend

You do realise that the person slowing both Rosberg AND Hamilton up was a Force India that Hamilton couldn't pass, they eventually got past him which made the Force India miss out on a second shot but yeah. Hamilton was at no fault what so ever. You've jumped to a massive conclusion thinking that Hamilton was purposely slowing Rosberg up.

Bear in mind Hamilton only made it by 2.5 seconds

I would imagine that Lewis is kicking himself right now. His mind set could go one of 2 ways for tomorrow. I am sure Vader would say "use the anger to drive you" or he could mentally write the weekend off.

Short of of any issues I can not see anything but a Mercedes 1-2 tomorrow. It will just depend on how long or difficult Lewis takes to get into 2nd place to see if he can mount an attack on Nico.

I think the big excitement will be the Williams and Ferrari fighting there way up the grid

WOW WHAT A SESSION!!! GREAT JOB NICO!!!! And wtf happened to hamilton? My heart was in my throat as they were pulling up to Club! I have to say, if perez had made it through in time to start his last lap, I seriously believe he would have been second or third. I think hamilton will have his work cut out for him getting by hulkenberg and vettel and then having perez and ricciardo right behind him. I'm definitely seeing a nico win with either a mercedes 1-2 and a force india on the podium or nico win with a red bull and a force india on the podium.

And then the ferraris and williams I can still see alonso locking down 7th place. He's going to rocket right by the lotuses and other backmarkers at the start and probably be very close to 10th position by the end of the first lap. I'm thinking raikkonen will lose a wing Massa may be right up there with alonso cuz he has had some epic starts this year too

Before I saw the post-quali interview from hamilton, I was kind of thinking of giving him the benefit of the doubt and thinking that he might have said to himself, "I'm down a lot on this sector, there's no way anybody will improve their time, given the mechanical issues I've suffered this year it might be better to abort the lap so there's one less lap of stress on the car" but then I saw the interview and that thought was out the window just like pole position

Also, I fully expect perez to beat hulkenberg tomorrow.
