Deep down I hope he stays at RB. They not only gave him a great opportunity, but they also virtually gave him carte blanche to hire who he wanted and to do what he wanted. So, they deserve to get the rewards of their investment and it would be fitting if he returned that faith.

On the other hand, if the RB8 turns out like the MP4-18 or 19 then Virgin may be his only option :hehe:

I'm all for domination :whip::whip::whip::twisted:

But then again you ask NOT to be put to sleep for your colonoscopy. :hehe:

I think the only thing that would make him budge is the rules being made less dependent on aero.

Newey has renewed his contract with RBR. No switching to Ferrari.

So they must have been negotiating with him at the time these rumors came out. Perhaps Adrian bumping the price up, or Ferrari helping Red Bull spend more of their money :hehe:

I don't care what he does as long as he stays away from ferrari.

If it's not this year, it will be next year; but, one way or another,
Mercedes will have the competition we need to make F1 more
fun for the rest of us!

ESPNF1 Adrian Newey has revealed that Formula One's restrictive regulations helped him make up his mind to take a step back from the sport at the start of next year.

On Sunday Red Bull announced that Newey would take a mentoring role in the team while he pursues new projects within the Austrian company. The change will see him take a step back from his day-to-day work at the F1 team and he said part of the reason was down lack of freedom for designers under the regulations.

"I just feel, to be perfectly honest, the current regulations are very restrictive, which is a shame," he was quoted by Autosport. "It's difficult to find new areas to explore because they are so tight. At the same time, I'd like to see if I can apply my ability - whatever that might be - to other areas."

Personally, I'm glad that the aero emphasis is diminished, what we discussed last year is exactly what has played out. I think it also clarifies why Newey didn't take the chum offered by Ferrari.

Ferrari were probably saved from a mistake of epic proportions, much bigger than bringing Kimi back (although the jury is still out on that one)

If they had broken the bank to get Newey onboard and given him the freedom he obviously wants to do stuff outside F1, they would have ended up paying a massive amount to a guy who is no longer interested in F1 because of the reduced aero in the regs. From Newey has said about the new regs, he has no big motivation or interest to get involved in the areas outside his expertise. So ferrari would be paying a fortune to a guy only interested in aero but forced to concentrate on non aero as well as outside interests

And... Red Bull doesn't want to improve, so they decided to renew
Newey's contract so he could do whatever he wants outside of F1?

How does that make sense (read cents, if you're North American)?

Newey will continue with limited F1 involvement for Red Bull, obviously they would prefer him to stay full time on F1, and they would prefer the aero regs back, but they have made the best if the situation.

If Ferrari had got him they would be paying 4 times as much for the same limited F1 involvement

An easier way to see it is that Ferrari would be paying more for less than red bull have in the past and going forward

Sometimes referred to as a mugging

He can still move to Ferrari for the massive pay cheque before they start putting 2 and 2 together

Follow Kimi's footsteps, massive pay check + another massive pay check to leave the sport and not race.

I'm surprised they didn't put this offer for Newey....pay him a lump sum to leave RBR and go fishing.

I think that was Red Bull's offer so he wouldn't go to another team.

Yep, to help other divisions of the company...not to go fishing and have a nice holiday. The ROI still makes business sense with RBRs deal.
