They mentioned on the Sky commentary earlier that Renault is expecting a lot of penalties towards the end of the season as. Does anyone know how many items each driver has changed?

Not sure, but if a track like Monaco caused problems now, Singapore could be interesting!

And they're slower speed circuits! I would've expected circuits like Monza to wreak the most havoc with the engines. :scratchchin:

Exactly! We might end up with the fastest and slowest tracks being unreliable while the "average" pace ones are ok! Who knows!

I heard before the weekend that Vettel and Kobayashi had used 4 engines already. Bad for Renault powered teams cause their old engines are 'inferior evolutions' but they still have to use them, i think.

I suspect a fair few drivers were using engines here that had done maybe 2 races already - interesting to see a few blowups which you could say are being caused by outright mileage. I expect this to be a feature later in the season unless a wide range of people start taking pens for using extra engines (very likely this season for almost all drivers i'd say).

Next year teams have to get through the season with 4 PUs.
However remember the PU is broken into components.

Are you saying that they can 'mix and match' in a manner of speaking? I haven't followed the regs this season too strictly.

The components are all seen as separate items. So you can have a K unit fail 5 times and not see an issue. You can have Batteries fail 5 times, the ICE fail five times, the Turbo fail five times... it's the 6th item of any one component that begins to incur grid penalties.

With all the different components involved, that seems to be a very convoluted practice!
Who's keeping score? The FIA, I would assume?

I would imagine that Monaco because it is a low stress circuit for the PU that it was all end of life parts.

The numbers don't lie. Power & reliability, Mercedes is way ahead of the game.

I saw it there too, I was out all day yesterday and had a ton of FB stuff but I saw the tweet first and instantly remembered that we were talking about it here a week or so ago. Paul seems to be a very knowledgeable chap, I'd dare say knowledgeable to the point of knowing it all!
