I know I am recent in this forum (and also the first forum I've ever joined) but I would like to ask for the newbies, is there anyone in F1 that has done great things for it?

Has Bernie or Mosley done well for the sport and made F1 the pinnacle of motor racing on this planet?

I didn't like Mosley before the nazi stuff, but were his tough stances good for the sport?

I know that I did not like LH or RD, but is the feud between them and FA good for F1?

I don't know the answer. But as a fan (my work is totally unconnected to F1, engineering, etc...) I would like to watch more overtaking and fighting at the top, and like football, there should be uninterrupted coverage until the end of the race (BBC yeah!!!). So in many ways, these lords of F1 are not delivering what I like. What does anyone else think?

I agree with you that there needs to be more overtaking. It should be better next year since slicks will return and there will also be restricions on the aerodynamics, plus the fact that everyone is on the same tire helps too. But all in all I still like Formula 1, and I hate it when people say Formula 1 is crap compared to back then.

I'm hopeful that when Max gets the boot we may see a crack in Ecclestones empire which may be enough to rescue the formula, but I doubt it.

Ecclestone has built Formula One from the ground up, there's no denying that, regardless of your views of him, but I think his greed has been having the opposite effect in the last few years, so it's probably time he either wised up or stepped aside.

The FIA have always been a shambles and up to their neck in politics. It's nothing new. It's sad to see the sport being run in such an amateur fashion.

The feud between Alonso and Hamilton was good for Formula One. It made the show a lot more exciting (although only a small fraction when compared with the Senna-Prost feud. The glory days of Formula One, in my view anyway).

Ah, but they are the cause of the majority of the sport's problems these days. Are you saying that we shouldn't want change?

I don't think everything F1 is today is completely attributable to Bernie or Max. For instance:

1. The advertising: as much as I hate it, it's everywhere! no mater where you look, be it in sports or most other events and even just walking around, you're bound to get flooded by annoying ads.

2. F1 being the pinnacle for Motorsports: well, even though old school F1 was mostly down to Engine, Materials develpment etc. The past decade has been huge in Aero and Safety. Though we could argue this has damaged the spectacle, I think with some 'adjustments' (some already on the discussion table) the spectacle could become really interesting and fun to watch again; even though drivers today aren't as outspoken as they used to be (I'd say blame the media and the pressure these guys are subject to). Anyway, in the end, its the engineers, the drivers and the teams who put F1 in the top. Bernie has done a nice job of globalizing F1 though... I'd say F1 has the widest range and (potential) audience ever.

3. The Teams / Drivers feud... well this is the result of competition. It would be great if all the teams / drivers had these sort of fights. As long as they keep the politics (and the nazi orgies) away from the racing... things should be ok

I believe the issue is with dragging Ferrari into it. That pi**es me off as well to be honest.

Ferrari drag themselves into it. Why dont they come out and say we no longer want help or backhanders from the FIA. From now on we win or loose on the track. Sorry I lost myself for a moment there Back to the real world.

I agree, is it one continuous commercial when you watch it because the car, the run-off areas, the walls are covered with ads and we still need to "take a break" from it all to watch more ads. Anytime I hear a presenter say: 'don't go away, we will be right back', my first immediate reaction is to touch any number on the remote control, as if it is programmed in my brain.

This is a good thing Bernie has done, but by doing so, he got so much power that it is hard to take it away and normally dictators want more power and money.

yeah, I wish the drivers and managers did their talk on the track. One thing MS did more than FA, MS did 90% of his talking on track (which meant that the bad politics that he had to say was either done on track and/or by Ferrari & Co). To play the broken record again, I think that Ferrari and FIA damaged F1 especially during the MS era. I remember last year, Mosley complaining that he did not want LH to succeed so much because F1 will go back to being boring plus LH was not in a Ferrari so FIA would have to severe its ties to Ferrari and listen to Mclaren for a change.
