- 13 May 14, 23:32#401752RC, I see what you see in a Grosean to McLaren move. I think he is maturing before our very eyes and given a good car, he is quick. The problem I see is that McLaren has a penchant for wanting at least one "name" driver…a World Champion or some such, because they seem to play that card quite a bit with their sponsor acquisition and they lean very hard on McLaren heritage and tradition. Grosean doesn't offer that but I think he offers them more than they have now. I can't/won't say much about Kevin yet since he's so new to the circus and IMO only flattered in Australia. But Button has passed his sell-by date, unable to do anything with a bad car and clearly hasn't been able to influence the direction of the car based on what he needs. All of the top drivers are doing that and you can clearly see the impact of their input. I for one would love to see a little shake up at McLaren, Red Bull and Ferrari. Everyone seems a little too comfortable and business as usual. The paddock having sat back and watched Mercedes shift & shuffle into a beast of a team in just a short 18 months, maybe a Newey switch is on the cards for the start of a shift in improvement that the other teams need/want.
Such fun!
"You must admit, the guy's a bit special!"
