In a perfect world the anti-butterfly effect would not have reduced driving to the collection of records it has become. If Senna had moved to Ferrari, it may have slowed the effect but we'd have gotten there sooner or later. MS would probably have less championships but his general attitude to racing would have still earned him an equally dubious, but less exalted, reputation.

Im going to put forward a question that may seem unkind / insensitive, but here goes.

Schumacher - won lots of titles, and in his time, very much hated.
Vettel - won lots of titles, and on occasion, very much hated.

Had Senna signed to Ferrari, and dominated as Schumacher did - would he have been disliked as much as Shcumacher / Vettel - or would his character still won him the millions of fans he has now?

People get tired of domination, no matter who it is coming from. Unless, of course, they happen to support the person/team dominating.

So, yeah, if he'd have dominated in the same crushing way as Schumacher/Vettel, with little or no competition from other teams/drivers, then yes, people would've reacted in the same way.

These are poeple however, who are ignoring the fact that domination has always been a part of F1 on occasions, right from the early days in the 1950s. It has often happened in previous decades, and it will continue to do so in future ones.

The internet has a lot to do with the dislike of modern drivers. Prost and Senna didn't have all the keyboard warriors to contend with. It's not hard to imagine us bashing away at all those drivers like we do today, were the technology available. Back then I just seemed to watch the coverage and not give it a lot of thought inbetween races. Nowadays hating on Vettel is one of life's small pleasures.

I think Schumacher was hated on as much, if not more than, Vettel. So if Senna took his seat, then the question, IMHO, still stands.

I find myself agreeing with you, so the next logical question to ask is: What will happen this season if it continues as it has started?

I think an era of domination is longer than 1 season.

A year of domination is a "well done chaps" when it turns into a year in year out think it becomes boring and drivers involved loose respect

People forget the reason Ferrari had the massive turn around, It was not only because of Schumachers arrival but also because of key personnel he brought with him from Bennetton in Ross Brawn and Rory Byrne.
Would they have gone to Ferrari without Michael? I don't think so.

Had Senna not died at 34, he would have wanted to be in the best car possible as he always did. That would not have been Ferrari.

I don't remember Senna being universally loved when he was alive, in fact i do remember him receiving quite a lot of hate
its just not mentioned now after his death

This is a good question because the belief is that Schumacher joined Ferrari due to his two world championships and Ferrari thought he could be something great with them. Turns out they were right, but that would depend on the outcome of the WDC in 94 and 95. Senna and Schumacher in the same team is a dream team alone, but for some reason, I feel they would've kept the Senna/Irvine format for 96
