TOKYO -- Nissan Motor will release in Japan a new Skyline luxury sports sedan powered by a Mercedes-Benz turbocharged gasoline engine.

Nissan partnered with Germany's Daimler in 2010. The upcoming rollout, expected later this year, will be the first results of their partnership reflected in a major product for Japan.

The new Skyline released in Japan in February is only offered with a 3.5-liter hybrid engine. The 2.0-liter engine Nissan has procured from Daimler has less horsepower but a turbocharger to boost acceleration. It also has a simple structure and thus is relatively inexpensive.

The Skyline with the Daimler engine will be produced at Nissan's Tochigi plant. The automaker is thinking about exporting it to Europe and Asia.

Pricing has not been announced but is expected to be less than the hybrid Skyline, which costs 4.62 million yen to 5.69 million yen ($44,000 to $55,000). Several hundred Skylines with the turbocharged engine are expected to sell each month.

By using technology from the German automaker, which excels in luxury vehicles, Nissan hopes to broaden product offerings and attract customers across a wider age range.

Maybe Redbull can get Merc engines sometime soon after all :hehe:
