Correct me if Im wrong - as Ive skimmed read this, BUT.....

As far as I can see, the difference is.

A) Other teams threaten to leave, to get the sport changed to how they want it, trying to effectively hold the sport to ransom.
B) Mercedes make a statement, AFTER THE EVENT, that if things hand't changed, they would of struggled to justify the relevance in staying.

Those, to me, are two very different things.

Just because it's public "now" doesn't mean this wasn't made clear to the FIA, et al, in private.

In conclusion:

Mercedes can say they were going to leave the sport if the regulations didn't suit them and that's ok because they made this salient "threat" after the fact.
Ferrari can't say they are going to leave the sport because that means they're whiners, regardless of the timing.

Also... Ferrari can't have "secret" summit meetings with Ecclestone and Todt because not everyone was at the table.
But, Mercedes can have "secret" tire testing even if no one else was involved because the FIA sanctioned it.

Got it!!

Mercedes don't make it sound like a threat, they make it sound like a business decision which it is. They sound rational.

Ferrari and Red Bull make threats or statements concerning their longevity in F1, and whinge non-stop about how they want it changed to suit their underdeveloped parameters. They sound potty.

Sagi that tyre test rankles beyond belief doesn't it! Even though the tyres were changed and Merc were screwed. :hehe:

A lot of folk said( when Lewis was seriously considering a switch to Merc) that Merc weren't serious about staying in f1. Well it certainly looks as though they are. Maybe their commitment was dependent on the technology being relevant to their road car business? Nothing wrong with that. There were no hysterics or threats, we only hear after the event how their thinking went.

Seriously Sagi. I do not agree with your assumptions, for me they are weak..

Mercedes didn't threaten anything. They just said internally they were struggling to justify the relevance of the sport, to the Daimler board, from a business point of view.

This was a non starter of a thread in the first place, and I'm sorry, but I expected better of this forum and am a little disappointed.

Edited by spankyham - It is healthy for us to have opposing views and we can disagree, but also remember to respect the views of others. :)

Edit by LRW: Fair point. I could of been more polite. It's no excuse but it was a 3am baby induced rant.

Short and sweet.

Apart from the fact that this whole thread is based on a fabrication, and apart from the fact that an attempt so far to point this out in open discussion has led to censureship with LRWs post edited and it's content restricted,

apart from this can anyone explain what this part of the OP refers to, I can't find it or is it also a fabrication?

Seems Luca isn't the only one who threatens to leave F1
Highlighted the bits I found interesting

The bit that concerns me is them wanting to stifle public discussion by and amongst the fans.

Answers or suggestions please before this post is 'edited to comply with the rules' on knowingly posting inflammatory material ( if the 'bit' doesnt exist the suggestion would be inflammatory)

The bold bit just seems like hot air to me. I'd prefer if these threads started with facts and solid reasoning behind the 'concerns' instead of vapour trails.

Mercedes 1-2 in China. I wonder if mnmracer will stop by and inform us as to the record for 1-2 finishes is in F1. Enjoy the results guys, don't get into a situation where you forget to smell the roses.

Perhaps we could have a rewrite of the 2014 season as if Ferrari had the good luck to actually produce a seriously competitive PU from the get-go :hehe:

Nico's won in China before as well. It will be tough for both, so a good show ahead.
