BTW, as a point of contention, Mercedes didn't actually threaten to leave, they just said it's a possibility given the environment if it should no longer suit their goals. Only Renault actually threatened to leave should the engine specs not be made relevant to their core business. The moral of the story here is Don't buy a Renault Hybrid Turbo, and certainly if you want a V12, buy a Ferrari!

Nothing; I'm just responding to WB's statement trying to distinguish between what Renault did and what Mercedes did! My team of choice, Williams also benefited from the engine spec change!

Nothing; I'm just responding to WB's statement trying to distinguish between what Renault did and what Mercedes did! My team of choice, Williams also benefited from the engine spec change!

There're always winners and losers in every decision....and I really don't see anything wrong with corporations making savvy business decisions (no matter what it is) to fit their own agenda and expectations. The annoyance starts when a particular organization repeatedly threatens to leave almost every year, but never do.

Renault pulled out of team participation and also threatened to leave completely if the engine was not changed to what THEY requested - a 4 cylinder, in line with their manufacturing focus

Ferrari threaten to leave many many times if the rules were not changed to help them win. Bernie confirms that Ferrari have been bribed to remain in the sport. Ferrari have called secret summit meetings to get the engine rules (5 years in conception) changed after 2 races. Ferrari forced the engine change from 4 cylinders to 6 and delayed the change for a whole year. The v6 turbo was a compromise agreed by ALL the 3 makers, as were the regulations on efficiency

The only thing no one agreed on was the noise as no one knew then how it would be received. Merc have agreed to go with the rest on improving sound

The main thing here is Ferrari falling flat on their faces (I.e. Failing) to try to force banana republic style change after 2 races

What is the parallel between what the 3 engine makers wanted BEFORE agreement and compromise was mutually reached

and

one of them trying to change the rules outside the agreed regulatory framework AFTER the agreement and AFTER implementation and AFTER 2 races

Maybe the answer to that lies in the fact that there was a SECRET summit meeting between the FIA, Bernie and the engine maker with the worst product out of the 3 engine makers who came to agreement near 5 years ago, before they all invested millions

I will add if new Manufacturers come into the sport, I believe it will be specifically because of the new engine regulations.

I dont like this. Its like how multinationals can have power over countries by being in them. F1 teams now have power over the sport almost. What would happen, They can now almost bribe the FIA.

I'd rather the teams have control over the sport, than Bernie Ecclestone...
