Ferrari’s major sponsor Santander is going nowhere, according to Emilio Botin, the Spanish banking group’s chief...

loyalty.
“The partnership with Ferrari is the best we have had throughout our history,” said Botin. “It is the key for Santander being known around the world...”

I would suggest that santander's major sponsorship commitment will remain with Ferrari as long as Alonso does. Maybe if he leaves they'll remain partly with Ferrari as they did for a while with McLaren, but if Alonso goes to another team I suspect a lot of their sponsorship will go with him.

Yep, when Fernando goes, I'd be fairly certain Santander will wind their sponsorship right back. There quite a few rumors going around that Apple really want to take-over the lead sponsorship position. Not sure how that would go down with me, but then again, I guess Luca (comforted by the iSheep ga-zillions of $) would manage to get over the fact that I might be disappointed.

Apple would be a good catch for any team.....I think I said as much some time back but can't remember the context. They're cool and have a good distinctive logo that's known everywhere....and lots of money! And apples are red, nthey could a special red Ferrari one.

What sense would it make for Apple to be a title sponsor in F1? The idea of branding is to widen the recognition and marketing appeal. How does Apple need this and why would it sit around waiting for Alonso and Santander to leave before doing it. If it wanted to it would have and so would Sony etc

Sounds like straw grasping to me although Ferrari shouldn't have a problem finding a sponsor

I skimmed across something a while back that Apple had something crazy, like 140 billion or so cash on hand. :yikes:

Do apple need to sponsor an F1 team? Would the cars have to be white?

In my mind it is like do coke cola need to sponsor anything (Burn is a product not a brand)

They'd patent every part of an F1 car and sue all the other teams.

The drivers can only get out the car if they 'swipe to unlock' their seat belts.

Yeah but the car would say designed by Apple in California. It would only be "assembled" in China.

Both Apple and Coke do sponsor stuff. Coke has a long big standing with NASCAR and Apple sponsored American Idol so I believe.

As some background, there has been some cross board membership between Ferrari and Apple. Also, at the recent (March 5) Geneva International Motor Show at the Ferrari stand, Apple launched their first and only implementation of what they call Apple Carplay as a standard feature of the Ferrari FF. Carplay integrate a users iPhone into the car systems.

If I had an iPhone I could write a blog about how well Carplay works in my Ferrari FF ...... if I had a Ferrari FF :hehe:

That's not a donation, that's the cost of business so they can utilize the resources, infrastructure and safety the country provides so they can do business. They (being a corporation and able to employ hordes of accountants and advisers) paid an effective tax rate of about 13% in 2012. I wish I could pay about 13% in taxes.

At least they paid some taxes, unlike say GE for that year.
