Good point really. Sadly quite a few who made significant and regular contributions.

It's just because there's a general viewer slump in F1, it stands to reason that it would translate into lower forum posts although characterizing some of those missing individuals as regular contributors doesn't directly translate the volume of their contributions as quality posting.

andrew, mnm, fraffypants... they would have had this place buzzing with activity... I think it's a case of absence making the heart grow fonder.

If we're talking about presence on forums, I think there are a few other issues to consider.

1. The huge rise in the use of twitter and Facebook for groups to discuss things. A lot of people new to the sport will automatically go to like minds people on those social media sites.

2. people's situations change,they have more/ less time on hands to go on forums. So as regulars drift to pastures new in their lives new F1 enthusiasts come along.......... maybe not as many as in previous years due to point 1.

3. People tend to come on forums more in times of scandal, controversy,excitement, etc and less so when things jog along nicely. Big influx around the time of the McLaren ban- Mosely/ Dennis scrap. Drop off during red bull/Vettel boredom. Rise when Vettel stole Webber's win etc etc

4. People who have high post counts that are mostly rubbish, have a big impact on numbers of posts dropping when they leave , but no real loss to the forum.

5. People who have high post of discourteous, irrelevant, rude sh!te, tend to get banned, so again the number of posts drop but not the quality of posts.

Different ticks for different people. I got interested from the start primarily because of Mercedes Benz being involved (with McLaren) and then quickly found my fav driver (DC) and started liking McLaren as well. So it was more of a brand name which got me hooked and I loved seeing McLaren beat Ferrari (on occasions).

However if I started watching F1 3 years back I doubt I'd be a big fan since I'd be seeing a drinks company kill everyone else 3 years running. So a lot of it comes down to timing as well.

To be fair I only really started to watch F1 as a proper fan in 2011, I was always a passing viewer as my dad always watched every race but it wasn't until the 2010 F1 game that got me hooked, then I started watching F1 seriously in 2011, lurked on this forum then joined in 2012. (Which does mean that I have only ever seen one race win with my team since I've been supporting them ). However I was already a motor racing fan beforehand with the BTCC and Clio Cup being simply awesome.

Thats a bit harsh to LRW who just hit 5K posts

ITV4 online via a proxy? They show all the support races here too, Clio Cup, Porche Cup, Formula Ford, Genetta and sometimes others like the British Mini Cup (Which is insane fun to watch)
