They do have a point about where Santanders big honchos point of view comes from, and that's not of a title sponsor.

Santander only associated themselves with the McLaren drivers suit once Fernando went to Ferrari. There's no branding on the McLaren what so ever. His point of Lewis being more marketable than Jenson is hardly a secret.

I still say Mercedes is far more of a loss for the team in attracting a title sponsor. The teams only had 4 in their 50 year history, how many drivers have come and gone in that time?

I don't disagree, and I'd never claim it's the only reason, but it's clearly a factor for those that have their eyes open. In this age of mixed media and multi-level branding, it's no coincidence that Mercedes has gained with Lewis and is capitalizing in exactly the same niche that was left a vacuum at McLaren.

Mags looks to be the real deal though, looking forward to more, and should either of the silver arrows fail to podium, the three names I'd like to see on it are Bottas, Hulkenberg and Magnussen.

EDIT: well four, Kobayashi but that's never going to happen.

WHITMARSH IS ALIVE! Some guy found him on Twitter!

Much to John’s surprise, he was wandering through the streets of Richmond, near Darlington, and who should he bump into??? The missing Martin Whitmarsh, who is dressed to walk.

Image

Martin assured John that Big Ron does not have a white fluffy cat on his lap after all, and the shop frontage outside which the 2 men and a baby are pictured belongs interestingly to a company called “Gekko Creative”; one of whose motto’s is “say what you mean – and mean what you say”.

..... It would be so cool to have ... a tad less harping on and on repeating exactly the same points about the past :)

.... My key point was why did Whitmarsh sacrifice his career in the way he did when the writing was on the wall for all to see? .... Or would those things be better in another thread do you think?

I wouldn't exactly count a discussion on why and to what extent Whitmarsh sacrificed his career as repetitive because I don't recall that aspect being discussed to date. But can you see yourself posting that some point 20, 50 or 100 times?

My point was related to the same points being posted repetitively. It would simply be a relief to not have to read exactly the same mantra being posted over and over again. Then again, it happens, somewhat like these little fellers..

maybe the forum needs one of these Image where such things can be discussed ad nauseaum without interfering on those who don't have a subscription?

Maybe a special space where we can bang on and on about how slow the new cars at and how restrictive and prescriptive F1 is despite evidence to the contrary as well as post repetitive negative ones about F1
Afterall repetition is defined as more than once, or we could just arbitrarily decided how many iterations is 'too repetitive' depending on how badly or well we are doing to get a point across
Why even have rules? Why not just stop discussions and lock threads when we feel like it
