The wet races has flattered the car's performance. In the dry they're not nearly as close.

I thought the opposite. They looked much stronger for the race in the dry. Their long runs in the dry were excellent and their tires were visibly in better shape.
They still look good in the wet, but their tire deg advantage goes away.

Here's a conspiracy theory: Maybe that wasn't an accident?
Personally, I found it odd that Rosberg was so far behind Hamilton in performance,
something like 10 seconds down early on in the race. Either he was "supposed" to be
making it difficult for Vettel to race up at the front with Hamilton, or Rosberg was
driving a B-spec car that didn't have the same pace that Hamilton's did.

That's generalizing! And, considering all the conspiracy theories levelled at Ferrari by other fans,
it's easy to understand why those fans would hate for it to be the case with their team!!

No I'm not saying that either. Obviously Red Bull is in a position they fought very hard to get to, but they've also stretched a lot to get there and it's still clearly not enough. Unless Mercedes is unable to develop the car it looks as good for them this year as it has looked for Red Bull two out of the last four years. Brawn's influence and focus in the 2014 regulation car is palpable.

When it rains people do get wet. For ages we have been aware of Merc on a mission to dominate, we have seen them assemble a super team, we have seen them out develop everyone last winter
The only other team with the talent, resources and knowhow to challenge is RBR as we have seen over the past 5 years
RBR don't make their own engines, Merc do

It's obvious Merc have lots more performance in hand that they are not showing, allowing other teams just close enough before turning up the wick - to make them waste resources chasing a moving target - a bit like Nico and Seb today - Nico in low engine mode then boom 8 sec gap

The clue was in the fuel usage. Looking at that tells us Merc were in a much lower mode thru the race than the other Merc teams bar Williams, RBR were maxed, whereas Merc were finishing the race with 10 % fuel unused, probably started underfueled, way beneath 100 kg per hour , yet could pull 2 second gaps at will. On a RBR that is having to resort to tricks with fuel usage, and was barely able to finish the race even at 2 secs slower

RBR are the only challenger but too far back due to engine, yup it's all Merc this year

Hamilton asked over radio this time "what can I do. shift earlier?" with 15 laps to go and about 20 second lead over a non-Merc car.

With the quality of drivers in this team and resources, it is indeed time for the rest to pack up and think of next season. These guys are doing just enough to win races and they can turn the wick up whenever they want.

Put it this way if you had a car with a massive advanatage and you had competitors that had big resources to try catch up, would you:
A) Go as fast as you can and show everyone that you have 2, 3 6 whatever seconds advantage
B) Always be just a second or 2 ahead, giving the chasers a target to waste money getting to and getting excited that they have suddenly reversed a trend of manymany months in a few weeks and are catching up, then when they gain 1 sec, you suddenly turn up the wick and show them another target


Its what Lewis does in free practice, goes out does a fast lap works out where to be faster then does it - in Q3, why show your competitors what you got till showtime proper, its also what Merc do as a team in free practice
