Is it just soar grapes or is there something to it ?
McLaren have not been to successful of late but I think Alonso might have the dummy back in place.

Fernando Alonso says he chose to leave McLaren at the end of last year because the Anglo-German outfit is "not a winning team".

The former double world champion is quoted by the Dutch website f1today.nl as justifying his return to Renault this year, following his spectacular falling out with British McLaren duo Ron Dennis and Lewis Hamilton in 2007.

"McLaren seem like a winning team, but they are not," Alonso said.

"Some teams are able to produce good cars," he said. "They seem like winners, but in fact they are not, like McLaren.

"They haven't won any titles in years, so I would rather be with Renault, who in the same period collected two drivers' and two constructors' championships."

Alonso said he decided to switch to Renault for the 2008 season because they are the right choice for the 'coming years', despite their lack of competitiveness at present.
"I could have gone to a couple of other teams, but ultimately Renault seemed like the right ones, with the experience, to make a good car and win races."
For the moment, however, Alonso is making no concrete commitment to the French outfit for 2009.
"Next year I want to be with a team that can win," he said.
"At the moment I think it will be Renault, because by the end of the season we will have made up a lot of our deficiencies and then we can make a small further step for the next season," Alonso added.

Hmmm For "Chose to leave McLaren" read was booted out. And someone should tell alonso that Ferrari dont want him
#39598
no, i think alonso wanted to leave, but would have been booted anyway, id like him to stay at renault, but unless they make decent progress this year, i wouldnt blame him for going,

never mind,

id say a bit of truth, a bit of spite in that statement
#39601
Haha, i can't wait to see what some people have to say about this...

I swear he's just saying stuff about McLaren for amusement's sake now.
#39604
What he wanted to say was...Renault was the only team that would accept me from who I am...and for the money that I want....(a cheating opportunist)

I hope he never joins Ferrari

It's not like he's said anything untrue. McLaren haven't won in nearly a decade and don't look like doing so this year, what with BMW sticking the boot in. That being said, for 2009, it's entirely possible they'll blitz everyone.

its quite funny hearing Alonso say all this stuff this year,
If McLaren arent a winning team and Renaults the better option because they won in 05 06, then why did he choose to go to McLaren in 07 then? what has changed since then?
this time last year he was raving on how he used to follow McLaren as a kid and it was his dream to race for them

Maybe he too was blinded by the McLaren MYTH & once he experienced the McLaren way he did not like it
But I do think the grapes are a bit soar but there may, just may be a bit of truth as well

Yes, it is shameful that he got kicked out of Mclaren (due to his own actions). And yes, FA deserves to be where he is. But he is still a great driver and he will be back as a main contender. Luca de Montezemolo is reportedly a fan of FA. And Jean Todt (who will never forgive FA for beating him and MS for two years running) is out of the way. So Ferrari next year. Otherwise, Renault will do again, all FA needs is a semi-decent car.....but yeah....off track the things he says sometimes sucks a little ... Mclaren are a great team and I wish he was still there.

Hopefully we will go to Ferrari in 2009... As Kimi's No2.

That is not going to happen, read:
Intresting tidbit of info concerning the rumour's that Alonso will go to Ferrari. Bob Varsha just stated on the SPEED Report that he has heard from a few member's very very high up on the board of Ferrari and they said:
"There is no place for Alonso at Ferrari and never will be, he is short of character and he is not a team player".

Finally the rumour's can be quashed as it, once again in Varsha's word's, is just Alonso trying to keep his name in the press.

Alonso is such a pompous arse I cant stand him  ! So McLaren has not won in some year's but they are consistently at the top fighting for both championship's, to say they are not winner's is blasphamy!!! Also did it NOT take Renault 11yr's before they won another WDC & WCC after MS departed?

but it was a hard decade when you consider you had the "dream team" at Ferrari dominating. All the older teams have their ups and downs in form
McLaren had come close in 00 03 05 07* its not like they were not competative like Tex has said.
