...the early morning quiet, with only the engines roaring to life is exciting!!

But the engines sound brilliant now, I really like the new sounds; it's more varied and just sounds like the future.

Wasn't disagreeing!! LOVE the sound, especially in the still of the night...
((That reminds me of a song, eh? :D ))

That looks heaps better than their cheap plastic chrome nonsense IMO. Stick on some red lines on that and easily the best looking livery on the grid.

I'd love to see the Merc in chrome. McLaren's Vodaphone livery is one I've always liked, but it does belong on the Silver Arrows.

Great driver analysis by Rob Wilson, especially about Kevins ability. Apparently If he gets comfortable quickly he would automatically be in the Lewis, Seb, Alonso, Kimi group. And Ron will be watching over him - this could be the big factor for McLaren even if they are behind the other Merc teams.
He could be better than all the other Merc drivers bar Lewis and maybe Nico.

A thought occurred to me while having a discussion elsewhere. We know McLaren had a very difficult season last year. Different people, different perspectives as to the reason/s why. I'm of the personal belief that having Hamilton last year would have netted them markedly better overall results.

My point of discussion is this; There's the obvious difficulty in bagging a title sponsor that will pay the dollar amount McLaren is looking for. You can look at it from a purely business sense and say that the worst season in 33 years is a factor, but here's where I think the loss of Hamilton was a double whammy, as his marketability has to be a contributing factor in perceived value of a title sponsorship deal.

Yes definitely a double whammy as once Lewis left, Perez was not able to generate a like for like marketing appeal, despite the Mexican connections.
Maybe Ron is holding out for Mag to create such a buzz in the first couple of races allowing Ron to jack up the rate card. A risky game though because as the season goes on, if Button plods around like usual and Mag takes time to shine, then the rate card will slide further and further.
Advertisers and sponsors are not bad at maths or sentimental and 2013 must have done untold damage to the carefully built up McLaren band for buck ratio directly after the damage of Lewis leaving.
What I like about Ron most is you never know what hes gonna pull, and he always does things differently to what would seem normal.

Maybe even the team are sandbagging and its all part of the making of the myth of Mag, when he suddenly bursts on the scene and starts qualifying what we thought was a weak McLaren ahead of the other customers

The silver and chrome came about because of Mercedes, I think this will be the last year we see McLaren run chrome.

I thought the updates had moved them closer to Wiiliams. They looked good in fp1. But now Button claims
13:26 – Jenson Button has admitted that he needs to improve the balance of the McLaren MP4-29 before qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix.

Button, a three-time winner of the race, was fifth fastest during second practice on Friday but believes that McLaren's outright pace is not as strong as his time suggests.

"Our car balance isn't quite there yet - we're still struggling a little in the high-speed corners," said the 2009 world champion.

"In the low-speed corners, we're looking reasonable, and all our electronics are working well. I don't think our outright pace is quite as good as it looks on the time sheets, but we've got a good understanding of the car and overall I'd say we're looking okay."

He needs to improve the balance of the car before quali? And if it doesn't improve that's quali written off? What about Mag? Can't they listen to him before history repeats itself?

I swear it's like a broken record trying to be creative everytime a mic is in front of it, it's not even funny anymore.

Great article RC

I think its only in the future that the mainstream will appreciate his uniqueness and contribution to British industry. Its easy to pick out the quirks and mistakes but harder to acknowledge what he has brought to the table. This is a guy they should talk about in business schools and use to inspire in schools and colleges. Also its a crime he hasn't been knighted
More like Enzo and worth a couple dozen Montezemolos and Max Moselys
