There might be many of a certain generation who would rather favour disturbing sportsmen instead of incredibly talented ones. Happily for most things have moved on and enlightened people want the best of sport, because its brings out the noble part of people, everyone, blue, white, pink whatever.
Yes people support those they relate to or come from the same place, but they also want the other guy who is maybe the best to be competing otherwise it doesnt feel so great if you win.
And smart people in the sport know this and therefore the most talented guys no matter where from tend to end up in the top spots.
Its only at 'odd' places that those in charge place disturbance above performance, and those places are never competitive and fall

I mean how can anyone in their right mind who genuinely wants to see sports wants to only see players from one place or another. Thats the whole idea, you want to go and compete and beat OTHERS

Anyway certain bigoted ex stars out there who dont realise they had their time already and now its those around that its all about, instead hanging round moaning about in their day and passing judgement on a generation thats alien. Its like those faded pop stars molesting kids, why dont they go molest an older person who could bust their head open with a sledge hammer

So to cut a rant before it gets going, Lewis is the real deal and those that try and resist are against the general tide - the need of the sports fans (even those that hate him, want him to be around to get whipped by their fave) Enough people go online for news and can see beyond the usual status quo trickery of promoting medicrity thats acceptable against sheer talent thats 'not controllable'

And yep, very much agree with you....there are also a few now hyping up poor old Kevin saying he's going to do 1 better than Lewis (aka win the WDC this year) and all that. I've also seen various comments around about how Lewis is going to mismanage his fuel and lose to Rosberg this year with no questions asked since this is a "thinking man's" season. Very poor show. But I guess it's having to go through this kind of sh*t his whole life which has made him the monster driver he is today. I think he's gone through more than enough to know what to segregate and what to absorb. He's got the right boss, the right teammate, the right team...everything outside should just count as 'noise'.

Here's hoping he finally gets something he should've gotten back in 2010. And then next year to get what he should've gotten in 2011.

The move to Mercedes proved to be a pretty good decision, you could almost say he looks like a genius.

You're absolutely right man, that's what I appreciate about Nico so much. He's going to compete fairly. If he's not fast enough on a given day, he's going to put the time in to find out why, and then come back and maybe surprise all of us at his next opportunity.

In fact, I feel the whole Mercedes operation functions that way. High class sportsmen right down the line, so I'm not expecting to be disappointed operationally. . . .

Keep fighting the fight man. The best combo of car/driver/team will prevail, and I think it's gonna be "us."

love this pairing! Love the team feeling coming out of Merc. Very excited for this year. As you say, Nico is fair, and I don't begrudge him anything. He wins it by his hard work and skill. He'll beat Lewis sometimes. I have faith Lewis will win out overall. But there's also Lady Luck to contend with. Two great sportsmen. They'll bring the best out in each other and Merc will be beneficiary. And us the fans of course. I can't wait to see Lewis get this car by the scruff of its neck. I don't think he's done that yet.

Yeah man, in pool they talk about "running the table." Well, the table appears to be set for a very long and productive run for Lewis/Nico/Mercedes.

I hope to stick around a bit more, because this is my favorite site after all. But, you know, sometimes life intervenes, so I may drop off the radar every now and then. But one thing I do know, you guys (and ladies ) are absolutemonsters in speaking the real deal. Plus y'all keep me laughing.

RC, you know this might be one of those epic F1 seasons that comes around every decade or so. Two seemingly very fast Mercs; Ferrari -- with two great drivers -- is going to be there or thereabouts; and McL looks pretty good too. And although Red Bull/Renault seem to be on the back foot at the moment, surely they will be closing fast and must always be considered a threat.

(But a great relief that they didn't get that extension on the engine rules they were looking for, I guess you could almost say they got a ).

Question about brakes.

Obviously last year, at the beginning of the season, Lewis was losing a little on lap time, as the brake material wasn't to his liking.

Now this year, we have a completely new Bake By Wire system, which I would guess might not give true feedback that you would with a 100% hydraulic system.

So do you think Lewis might find difficulty with this at all, or do we think that it will be the same learning curve for everyone so it'll make relatively little to no difference?

That's a good question. He's said the car is to his liking i.e suits his driving, but I haven't heard him specifically talk about braking. Does that fly wire thing completely replace the hydraulic brakes? Or s it both? I'm not sure how it works but a wire brake doesn't sound very good. It sounds like a hand brake instead of a real meaty foot brake.

It's a bit of both. Ted was explaining it yesterday on his F1 notebook. It is hydraulic, but with the ECU working out balancing between front, rear and the harvesting system juggled on the go by the ECU. So if the computer fails the hydraulics will work as normal. So no safety issues. Apparently some drivers have compared it to when your road cars ABS kicks in, and it can leave the car a little unstable as the ECU balances the braking. So that made me wonder if the feedback might be a bit dull for him as it's not true racing feedback. But if the car is unstable a little, that might suit him a bit better than other 'smoother' drivers. Hmmm.

Yeah sounds a bit like swings and roundabouts. He perhaps won't be able to stamp on them last minute but if the car becomes unstable he'll be one of the best to deal with it.

From what I understood from half listening to Ted; the amount of braking the harvesting system might need on to do a said lap, will depend on fuel usage. And because this will differ each lap, the amount the driver will need to brake each lap will differ. So the breaking point could be completely different each lap.
