I'd say once testing is completed Ferrari will have done setup work and then some Q sims. What I see is Ferrari spending a lot more time understanding and learning their car for the whole season and not much focus yet on race setup and qualifying.

No no no, he is quoting someone in the Ferrari pit as having this impression of the pecking order. Thats what I mean, the teams will all know roughly where they are compared to others. I dont speak Italian but going by the translation, a Ferrari insider said they were behind the 2 teams at present. Then later the team are saying the usual 'we do our own thing we dont know about the others'

Thats what is a little concerning - Merc have done low fuel runs, lets assume thats their full 1 lap pace, then Ferrari will know how much fuel they had in the car etc when consistently maxing out with both drivers 3.5 secs off that. They should know that 'with low fuel and soft tyres' we can beat that or not. To say we dont know we dont care is interesting, especially in the light of this Italian journo claiming Ferrari told him they couldnt do the times of 2 teams

I pay little to no attention to media translations. I pay less attention to "unnamed" Ferrari "insiders". I'm not in the least concerned about Ferrari not focusing yet on Q setup and sims.

Also how come they havent done race sims and short sprint testing, normally teams will have at least done one of thos in the first half of testing

Ferrari have done two full race sims I'm aware of.

My comparison was that both Kimi and Lewis were probably on the same comfort level when they lost the noses of their cars. At no time did I claim they were for the same reasons.

You might like to remember that Alonso's mother tongue is NOT English.
His wording is probably more attributable to semantics in translations
than in anything you're gleefully inferring from his comments.

Not sure at all. I suspect we will have seeing some wow by now. The fact Kimi and Alonsos fastest times were so close suggests a limit. Also they may yet have to reinforce the engine cover, adding more weight.

We could be looking at a total deficit of 5 seconds to Merc

Personal? Any personal comments I made there? Rude? Maybe, but if someone makes statements which are clearly way below their normal standards (this is a compliment btw) it does get a bit frustrating. It's like seeing your 10 year old highly trained German shepherd take a dump on your couch for the first time.


Anyway...Lewis was the leading car that day when his brakes failed and his day ended.

Kimi was in the dying minutes of the day with the leader being about 4 seconds faster and I see no other reason for him to be pushing that hard other than trying to find out where they lie in a certain aspect. With a low fuel load, full fuel load, who knows...but he was certainly pushing and crashed all by his own.

But you know what.....I'm sure Ferrari can make up 4-5 seconds so let's watch Melbourne and come back to this thread after qualifying.

Oh Well, I am sure your Italian is better than mine Sagi. Lets look at Kimis statement instead

So Kimi is not concerned about the quick laps of others because they are chasing reliability. And in the same speech he says he is not concerned about not doing long runs either and will do them next week. So Ferraris testing schedule is not about performance or long runs yet, only reliability, and thats good to sort out in the last 4 days before moving on?

A positive day for the team today. Fernando completed a race sim and although he confirmed he had problems (which he said he was able to adjust for from the steering wheel) his lap times were actually very good. Also lots of laps from all Ferrari powered teams added to the good result for the team today.
Two more days of testing and still they haven't done anything on qualifying running. Hopefully they will get around to it on one of the last two days

Yup Ferrari looking much much better. Good reliability, just the one lap pace left in question. Hope Kimi pulls his finger out as Alonso is already looking the senior partner.
