Glory holes alleviate those troublesome hairy palms!

I come to read this thread and get rather confused by the first post I see in here for 2 days lol

Did we all come to a consensus about the plea?

I just thought it was apt. I think Foreman was a cricketer and school head master

Well, this is the Alonso thread, so it's negative :nono: ; but, if this was the Kimi thread, it would be positive!!

Besides, I was just teasing!! Since some of us get a bit touchy when we aren't as positive as they'd like us to be
on subjects they'd like us to be positive about!! I thought I'd try that on for size... it didn't fit!! :banghead:

Sagi, I hope you don't mind me using your post to make a point. The point us not aimed at you, it's a general point, but your post is a good lead in.

You may have noticed the addition of the word 'support' to the driver and team threads. Here's the reason for it.

Speaking firstly as me.....Racechick a forum member. I welcome discussion about all topics. I don't mind negative comments made about my favourite team/driver so long as it's done respectfully and without resorting to insulting me because of the views I hold. I will counter negative comments with my positive views and for me that's part and parcel of a forum.

Speaking now as a mod. It's not always an envious role being a mod, because very often we have to put aside our own views and try to do the best for everyone on the forum. Some members dislike robust arguing, circular debates and negative comments about teams and drivers. We also get a lot of tit for tat arguing. So we've taken the decision to make the driver and team threads more ones of support. That does not mean you can't bring up a topic which may reflect badly on a team or driver, you can still do that, but in another thread, one you may choose to start if you have a point you'd like brought up for debate. That way we have the support threads remaining generally positive but we also have scope for debate .

RC, I have a question. Why are the team threads 'support' threads? I thought this support thing is reserved for the 'drivers' and any debate and discussion (negative or positive) can be made in the thread of the driver's team for debate.

Now we have both team and driver support threads, it gets confusing as to where we can actually debate stuff about the team or driver. I had an understanding that we could bring any and all discussion in the team threads...since they are reg the team and not aimed for any one individual personally. Am I making sense?

So let's say I want to bring something about Redbull which won't be too positive (Redbull can't complete a formation lap for example) which might be seen as deragotary by the now phantom RB fans....though my intention is to see if anyone thinks they CAN make it past the formation lap and provide reasoning to do so....where do we discuss this. Creating a new thread for this is a waste of space isn't it. :scratchchin:

Well that should be obvious, you post it on the Mercedes thread.

I think your example is perfectly valid, however it's not the norm is it? I think the idea of "support" is to remind people to be courteous, and non repetitive as well as willing to leave a disagreement as just that, a disagreement, not delve into the all too familiar tit for tat or circular arguments that have a tendency to develop when someone's intent isn't discussion but something more akin to trolling.

Hammer, that's a good question. Just to add to WB's comment.....

I can't see there would be any problem, in view of what we've seen in testing with you posing the question in the Red Bull thread as to whether Red Bull will make the formation lap in a couple of weeks time. However if you chose to phrase it like this.... 'Red Bull are going to be a laughing stock in Melbourne', then perhaps that would be more appropriate elsewhere, not in the support thread.

Some members are as passionate about the team they support as others are the driver they support, which is why we included both as 'support' threads.
As WB said, it's just really about showing consideration and being curteous.
