Merc are starting to show their hand. Ferrari and Kimi a bit unlucky today so its hard to see where they stand on outright speed. Possibly ahead of the rest bar Mac and Merc but its only testing. I think McLaren have shown their outright speed and Ferrari are yet to.
Merc rumored to be bringing an engine cover solution that exploits the aero of Mclarens trick suspension, not sure we saw the full version yet.

RBR have gone beyond sandbagging and I do not think they will be the best Renault car at the first race, I think Caterham could be by virtue of just finishing. RBR and Lotus will have the rest of the few days of testing just to get a car than can complete a race and it might no be pretty. The RB10 livery might be flo vis for the first few races

Merc were testing different engine covers yesterday which are similar to what McLaren are running as well as some other things(pics from Hammer).

The circuit operations director just told Autosport why it took half an hour to remove Chilton's car. They couldn't touch it because it wasn't safe regarding the ERS.
Thus they had to wait until mechanics of Marruissa came and decleared it safe to touch the car.

This could ruin the first few races, I can see the openers being full of safety cars and maybe red flags

Still cannot get my head around this "Driver sitting in what could be a live metal box, then going driving in the rain"

Hope they've worked this out better than I have, would be awful if anything went wrong and cost a driver more than their career :(

Renaults problems are causing the teams to 100-150 bhp less than the Merc and Ferrari units.

Its the RBR drivers I'd be worried about most considering the Kers problems and fires caused by Neweys previous 'enthusiasm' for pushing the rules.

I mean I'm guessing Ricc is partial to a barbie or 2, but even he must be feeling a little nervous about having one on track

Agreed, but if its raining on the grid in Melbourne, id be looking at my car with trepidation if I was a driver for any team

The engineers know their stuff. In this day and age there is no electric system that cannot be made safe and practically fool proof.

providing no one is trying to cut corners with the mandated safety measures. These guys could install a nuclear reactor and make it safe at a cost of weight etc. On paper the Kers will save, providing no one is trying to cut corners in the search for glory or a 2 sec car

Have any teams completed a full race distance yet? From memory Mercedes did at Jerez

Yup, sure you are right, just seems more dangerous than previous years because of the amount of current and the reports of the cars being "Live", add the fact the cars are new and maybe a crash in the wet, dunno, as you say you cant make it fool proof, guess i just miss the v8s and v10s :P:cloud9:

Isn't the driver safe inside the car, even if it's dangerous to people outside the car? It would only be dangerous if the driver tried to get out..which they may need to if there's a fire, so I just answered my question. Thanks! :D

Speculations on another forum about this image, and drivers being told to leap from potentially live cars to avoid "Arching"

Great caption pic tho :P
