Look at India, most populated Cricket loving country, and they dominate at it, cause theye got masses of people who play it each and every day to form a team from.

Notice when you have an event that incorporates many sports, prime example olympics, the countries that always finish top 3 in medal count?

China
Usa
Russia
(irrelevant but at Beijing 2008 UK came fourth beating auld enemies France and Germany!)

Why, cause theyve all got hundreds of millions of people and plenty of sports to focus on. So naturally they end up getting most medals. More talent to choose from.

Why do you think Russia Canada and the US are the best three at ice hockey? Cause theyre the only ones that really play it, could lump Finland in there too.

What this all comes back to, is that Michael Jordan dominated a sport, where he was technically the best in the world. But the rest of the world.....it didnt really care.....

That's not really true, a few years back cricket was dominated by Australia, and before them it was the West Indies.

India did go into the cricket world up 2011 as favourites, but teams like Sri Lanka and Pakistan are also really highly rated.

What good is a $10 basketball if they have nothing to shoot it into?.

please tell me you're joking. all it takes is a basket (hence the name). even without a basket or people to play with, there's tons of stuff you can do with a ball to refine your skills. It's no different than soccer in that respect.

since when is basketball only watched in 1 country?? have you heard about the dream team for the olympics? lots of countries not only watch basketball, but also play it competitively.

just because the nba is an american league doesnt mean the sport itslef is solely american. its the same case with the bundesliga, premiere league, mls, italian league, and so on.... the NBA is simply a league, it is not "the sport of basketball".

This always happens, someone (not their fault at all) takes something too literally and it spirals off.

Nobody is literally saying basketball is only played in one country. But its majority audience can be attributed to one nation of about 250 odd. That alone qualifies it as a very one-country sport.

It also whether meant or not comes across so arrogant when its our US cousins that say MJ is the greatest athlete, when only one nation really has a chance at producing the greatest ever basketball player. Football (soccer) is Europes, South Americas, and Africas sport. Dominated. Boxing is played to a proffesional level by almost every semi-developed country in the entire world, and there are current world champions from about 18 countries let alone competitors!

Of course its not MJ's fault its a US sport, but i still dont think he qualifies for the best athlete ever.

A US sport? Only one nation has a chance in producing great players???? WHY?? There are no poor kids where you live and can only afford a 10$ basketball?

You still expect to be taken seriously? :wavey:

Joking aside even though I'm still not convinced thats a women  ,deffo no to a date thanks :hehe: :

See how this works?
You claim X sport is "girly"
I show you a girl that can kick your bottom and challenge your manlyhood :hehe:
Your MANLY defense mechanism says "thats no woman"
Why? Because she's stronger than you :hehe: scared she might hurt you?

Afterall she's just a girl

Theres nothing manly about fighting,Only hooligans start fights so why would i want to fight it ,if it was a man or a women

But you just said Basketball is a girls game :wavey: meaning what exactly?

Ok sure, but my point doesnt waver......its still as true as it was before your reply. Thats meant to say dominate(d) by the way. As i the world cup.

If your country loves a sport, its gonna be good at it, if it has no interest, mustering up a team of mercenaries to go compete in the olympics, they get slaughtered.

Surely dominated doesn't just suggest victory? It suggests victory to an extent its hardly a challenge and the opposition are weak in comparison If India dominated they'd have won every match in the world cup by a comfortable margin.

Isn't your point about competition an athlete faces? There's enough people who like cricket for that to be big enough I'd say, ask someone to name their worlds best cricket 11 and I'd doubt you'd get more than 3 from one nation.

And an athlete's performance in cricket isn't too comparable with basketball anyway, its kinda easy to shine in cricket even if your team mates are failing, the real question is the strength of the bowler a batsmen is up against and vice-versa.

Hey Vaptin Australia still retains #1 ranking in ODI by the ICC

Past their peak, I think. Still a good team though.

The bottom line is that this started with me believing Michael Jordan isnt really eligible, because he hasnt really done anything but play basketball, wheras other athletes ive mentioned have had vast, unmeasurable political, cultural influences as well as dominating their own sport, and the sport Jordan competes in, is only watched by a vast MINORITY of the world.

Thats all, we've argued about best cricket teams, but thats all irrelevant

Just because Basketball is none existent in Britain it doesn't mean that the rest of the WORLD is a MINORITY.

Talk about LYING.That whole post is infested with it.

Yeah its a small time sport huh :hehe: I'd say Basketball is more popular world wide than a so called sport of boxing. I recall back in the 90s Jordan was the most recognisable sports personality in the world!

Buuut since when did being the best ATHLETE have anything to do with politics?

There are bushmen in Kenya and Amazon tribes that recognize Jordan, thats how popular he is.
I guess when people run out of BS to write, they say he didnt save any drowning children, pathetic.

Your comment made me go back and reread the posts. Full fledged argument by page three, and I swore it was an innocuous and entertaining thread. Different set of people posting but same results. :hehe:
