So when are you guys going to get over that after the 3 years together that 22 "Rubber Ducky" beat 44 "Droopy Drawers" on points. At the end of the day points win championships and not wins or fastest laps.

And in the end championships are held annually not over three years. It's 2 to 1 the the FIAs count but apparently that fact escapes some since there was little to grasp outside of that numerical victory. the only stat that matters to his fans are points over three years. I find that quirky at best.

After all in WWII the French did beat the Germans over five years. :hehe:

He didnt say that all fans of :duckie: are haters, he said the ones who repeat the meaningless statistic are basically hating

Urm...

and that CERTAIN fans of the :duckie: aka haters of his ex-teammate repeat a meaningless statistic which doesn't represent the truth.

That kind of implies ALL fans of Button are haters of Lewis. He didn't say some of Button's fans, or most of Button's fans he said fans of Button AKA Hamilton Haters... Meaning if you like button you are automatically a hater of Hamilton.

Button fans repeat meaningless statistics -> Button fans AKA haters of Lewis -> ALL Button fans are haters of Lewis.

I will try to start a positive thread one day, but It'll be a while before anyone else braves entering the lion pit for a positive debate.

Edit: Also considering both* Cookin' and Hammer don't like Button I find it rather hypocritical that you are complaining about circular arguments, considering the two of you alone have contributed 30% of all posts to this thread. And I can make an accurate guess at what most of these are about.

My apologies Lemonade. I missed out a very important word, and never meant that every single Button fan in this world is a Hamilton hater. I trust I'd never be stupid enough to think on such a scale. :hehe:

Regarding your last line, I don't think Cookin or myself have ever complained about circular arguments.....just the fact that a few people (no names) come into the threads simply b!tchin about our posts discussing Button. If these certain individuals could contribute and tell us why we're wrong about Button instead of the topic of our discussion (which happens to be in the right thread)....it would be a bit more constructive.

How do we get over factual rubbish? Are you even serious with this sentence?

Too true, points win WDCs but over ONE SEASON. The metric we use is ANNUAL. It's like accountants filing in 2 or 3 year financial statements lumped together as an 'annual statement' just because it makes the company look good, even if in 1 year the company had gone bankrupt. Is there TRUTH in this?

Is this so bloody hard to grasp?

Its amazing how many called sports followers just dont understand the concepts behind scoring rules

2 tennis players play a 5 set match. Player A wins 3 out of 5 games on tie break. Player B won his 2 games without dropping a single point. Player B has scored more points over the 5 games. But who won the match?

A student has 5 exams with 50% pass mark that make up his degree. He gets 100% in his best 3 subjects and fails the other 2 by scoring 49% in each. His total mark is 398 out of 500
Another student passes all 5 with 51% in each, his total mark is 255 out of 500
Which student is granted the degree

A WDC title is decided by points scored each season. 2 drivers have a competition over 3 seasons
Driver A beats the other 2 out of 3 years, which driver won the competition

I read somewhere that most sports fans do not understand the rules in their chosen sport, and instead just understand that they cheer if the team scores and jeer if it doesnt

In reality only one persons points count for the WDC and only 2 peoples points count for the WCC

But that's just changing the length of time the metric has been in existence. I.E I could say the United States of America as a legal country has been in existence as long as the UK as a legal country because I only started looking from 1850. Granted yes when Lewis and Button were teammates Lewis came out on top 2/3 times, but we could just as easily look from the year Button came out on top then it would be 50/50. Statistics, facts and figures only suit those who first wrote them.

Well it's their time as teammates that's being looked at.

That statement is true only when there's an agenda. In the rest of the universe numbers (mathematics) have a defined and agreed upon meaning and value.

Everyone always has an agenda; personal opinion will always seep in no matter how much you try and stop it.

Some have an agenda that involves bitching and moaning about the posts of others instead of making any useful posts of their own

pssst... They've obviously not noticed that your """metric unit""" was their partnership together at McLaren, eh?

Mind you, another """metric unit""" we can use is their respective WDC seasons!
And, much as I hate statistics, I gave up what little free time I had this evening
and garnered the following interesting fact about that particular """metric""" unit:

In 2008, Hamilton had 5 wins (27% of races), two 2nd places (11% of races), and three 3rd place (16% of races) finishes for a total of 10 (56% of races) podiums.
He had 1 retirement in 18 races. He won his championship by a single point.

In 2009, Button had 6 wins (35% of races), one 2nd places (12% of races), and two 3rd place (12% of races)finishes, for a total of 11 podiums (65% of races).
He had 1 retirement in 17 races. He won his championship by 11 points.

Some people have an agenda that involves bitching and moaning about the teams other members favour instead of accepting that we don't all have to be of one mind.
