Why would they turn the power up on a wet track though, to still keep some cards close to their chest? I'd think telemetry data of an engine on full power on a wet track isn't representative of running it in the dry?

The power up / power down doesn't really do anything to their data they can easily work it all out. It's also a good test for the engine to turn the engine up in the wet to get temperatures and everything, we all know the engine will be performing better in the wet (cooler) conditions.

They perform better in the cooler conditions but the engines are no way stressed as much as they normally are in the dry. Even a little water on track gives the engine a holiday, compared to what it needs to do in the dry.

They are turning it up and down in different conditions, different tyres etc
thats why the individual fastest lap is now relatively higher than the other and why even on a 30 lap long run, his times are still close to there fast lap times

basically they are using more engine modes than before, a wider range including the higher powered ones

For some reason that to me, just looks like unfinished business. The rear looks so plain, like a large jigsaw piece still missing.

Its basically last years car adapted for the new regs.

Theres no new clever interpretation like Mclarens, its just the old package everything as tight as possible then play with ballast :hehe:

Rosberg is now 68 laps and he is increasing his best time over the other Mercs who are on short runs

Ferrari spent the day so far on full wets while everyone else is on inters ... hmmm

If Rosberg keeps this up, he's looking way past 200 laps on his own. Maybe they should fly some minor development parts in tomorrow for Lewis to forge ahead with finding pace.

Red Bull's cooling solution for today

Newey likes to get carried away with tight packaging and this time maybe has overdone it by underestimating the cooling requirements. Ofcourse not being a manufacturer didnt help, but perhaps that should have made him more cautious.

Andyway so far its safe to say his solution is worse than the other Renault customers. Thing is how can he get on with redesigning/correcting the packaging, when the package content itself will also have to be 'corrected' by Renault which will take time.
:hooli-popcorn:

And to think Lewis had the foresight to look ahead to a time when the manufacturer cars would have a clear advantage, are you listening jackie

... I'd have to agree with allowing Red Bull and Renault additional test time and rule changes to enable them to race because that was the precedent set last year. All would have been unnecessary if the ridiculous testing and practice ban was not in place.

Really? I'd think it's making a mockery of the rules if they allowed that. The other manufacturers spent time and money to get their sh*t together in time, are the FIA going to refund them the money and effort? Don't think so...

Isn't this what happened when Pirelli changed their tire construction, well into the season last year?

No, they changed it on safety grounds....and because their tyres were exploding away at Silverstone.

There's no danger to everyone if Renault customers park their cars after 5 laps and take the bike ride back to the paddock.

Oh, I remember very well what they said; but, as you can probably tell, I'm still not convinced.

Okay, then what is your theory?

If they are still 75% less power than the other 2 by homologation, then they may be allowed more time to catch up. But between now and then there is no rule change, or extra testing or extra time. The season starts and if the dont complete a single race, so what. No difference from Honda or Toyota in some parts of some seasons previously.

Changing rules, nah, I mean who do they think they are, Ferrari?
