Exactly!

Each team has contact with the HPE guys, maybe even their own HPE guys. So those HPE guys must share data about what each other team is doing, engine modes, issues etc.
But they do not have to tell all the teams about all the stuff, itsnot their business, but it is the HPE staffs
And HPE are owned by the guys at Brackley, therefore it makes sense that if Merc are using engine modes 1-4 and Williams 5 - 8 and Mac 9-12, then Merc will know a lot about 5 - 12 as well as 1-4.
But williams will know about 5-8 and will find out about the rest when they test that mode themselves

I would imagine that Mercedes engines get to see all the telemetry pertaining to the engine. A lot of data could be extrapolated from that

I reckon all the engine data would go into a big pot and everyone will take from it

You little communist you.

Yeah. Starlin! every team for themselfs.

As the engine and ERS units are unknown, then a lot of the testing will be how to best use them all together to get through the race efficiently. Therefore one team having access to 4x their own experience is massive.

McLaren could be doing a lot of running to work out how best to do sprints and Merc testing long runs today, but at the end of the day Merc will have McLarens data as well as theirs

No way McLaren would have that level of info about Mercs long run data. They would have to do their own long runs. But Merc would start their sprint tests with Macs data.

the only way ofcourse for McLaren to be sure they are getting ALL data is to make their own engines.

When you add the small fact that Mac are going to Honda they are actually getting about 1/5 what Merc are out of each day testing I reckon

I'm not saying that Merc team isn't getting Merc engines data from other teams, of course they are, it's just that I seriously doubt the teams would just accept giving them data, knowing full well it goes to the team, with no data in return I.E McLaren run engine on mode 2-3 and Williams run on 4-5, I recon Williams would want mode 2-3 engine data i.e. power output/fuel consumption etc.

Think for a second, you and your friend both have an xyz engine, when your xyz car engine breaks down and you go to the xyz mechanics, do you withhold info from them? What if your friends engine also broke down, would they tell him all data about your engine?

So do you reckon Williams would get 100% of what's available, yes or no?
If no what %?

No mechanic in the whole world tells you every issue other customers are having with your type of car, and definetely not 100% of all the data he has gathered from all customers of your type of car.
They not gonna screw any customer by giving wrong info or dud engines
Merc HPE have all the engine telemetry related to every customer for every lap. It would be naive to think Merc Amg don't benefit,

And if they are benefitting even x amount, they are at least 4x better off than any customer and 2x better off than Ferrari. Renault don't count :hehe:
