Its exactly like last year. Lewis' Merc goes of the track, and the BBc and the rest of the 'status quo' brigade are all jumping with indecent haste to declare that LEWIS HAS CRASHED, with idiots like Gary Anderson talking about him flatspotting his tyres even whilst clouds of black smoke were emanating from his brake failure

They all looked pretty stupid quickly. Merc lost a lot of testing time last winter due to that crash yet didnt do too bad at the end of the season

It logical to assume that Lewis would have improved his time had he continued. At least we now have the time set by the Fiat as a reference for tomorrow

But that's my point, i don't think it does imply that. I just think it implies Hamilton crashed. Which he did.

HE crashed his new Mercedes. NOT, the wing on his new Mercedes failed CAUSING him to crash. Subtle difference in wording but a world of meaning in there, fodder to the , er the....hmm, people who like to hear these things.

Discounting the obvious difference in size of the pictures, these two beasts seem to be very similar in nature!!

They seem similar until you get to the back, the fiat is a lot less sophisticated and tightly packaged. Its almost as if Ferrari poached a couple of engineers from Merc before Merc had finished their rear end, and so they couldnt provide details of the rear :hehe:

Perhaps the Mercenaries should have concentrated on the front end, as much as they focused on developing their sophisticated and tightly packaged rear.

The front wing is the one part that will go through a lot of evolution. Very easy to redesign and make changes. The reaqr end is where the engine and ERS and turbo are. The rear downforce is central to the cars handling

Nah, I reckon they made the right choice to focus all the engineering brains on the rear

Really? What's so special about the Ferrari's front end then? We see teams copying the front wing and noses by the 2nd or 3rd races, so if there's room for improvement there you can bet everyone's already making them right now. As Cookin mentioned the secrets and tech are all jammed up in the rear and Mercedes looks like its trumped the field in terms of that aspect. Redbull comes closest though.

I doubt we will see teams changing front ends very drastically. Every team has gone a certain route in getting airflow to the rear end of the car To change the front would require the side pods, the rear well the whole car basically.

I agree with bud, the front wing sets the design of the rest of the car. For a team to change their front wing philosophy now would mean a major redesign from front to back.

Yep, Button turtled his way around 1 lap and came back in....isn't this supposed to be Maggy's day though?
