Over at McLaren:

Ted Kravitz has been down at McLaren – who are yet to appear out on track today - and I’m afraid to say that the news isn’t good, folks:

“It is a hydraulic and electrical installation problem – in other words, everything won’t fit together. Part of the problem is that to fix it, you have to take everything apart, then identify the problem, repair it and then put everything back together again. And such is the complexity of these cars, that’s more or less a four-hour plumbing job each way.

“It’s therefore no surprise that the team are saying it is very unlikely they are going to be testing today. Jenson’s interview slot at 5pm has been cancelled as he is probably not going to have much to say. Hopefully we will hear from him tomorrow.”

And no news from Redbull yet. Ferrari have 15 laps under their belt and a 1:29, 2 seconds of the best time.

What an edgy, problematic start for everyone to 2014!!

What I don't get with this McLaren, Caterham, Marussia, Red Bull is. As most of us know the 7P's, proper preparation and planning prevents piss poor performance.

So turning up to a race track and saying "s*** it does not all fit together" is something they should of sorted before now. Could they not build the car in the factory, power the thing up and get it running.

I can not believe multi million pound companies can be so badly managed.

That just means McLaren have not finished the car ready for testing. Installation problems should have been spotted back at Woking. They should have been ready for at least a promo run like Merc before arriving at Jerez.

Perhaps if it wasnt for Rons presence they would have sat out the first test. Hope they are ready for tomorrow and that young Mag gets his run. Now Whitmarsh is gone there shouldnt be any chance of giving Button Mags time.

McLaren were almost ready to put out a mock for the launch so this issue isn't a shock. From the look of things and the timing of Whitmarsh being ousted, it seems that McLaren were way behind schedule and we're seeing the cracks openly now which RD is quickly trying to patch up.

Yeah Jabber, they must have put it together in the factory before shipping it to Spain, that's what Marussia did, they found a problem, have now fixed it and are shipping it out today. I find it hard to believe that McLaren and Red Bull didn't do that before hand.

Let me fix that for you...
They seem similar until you get to the back, the Image is a lot less sophisticated and tightly packaged...

Have you found those elusive pictures of the back end?
Seems no one else has been able to?

Crap, bloody Ferrari are racking in the miles now. Merc's got to catch up with Nico tomorrow.

Really seems like the two works teams are best prepared for 2014, everyone else seem to be f**ked right now Redbull included.

I can see the difference in sophistication between the Fiat and the Merc just from the side views you provided, as well as the 3/4 views provided in the W05 thread

Have a look at the 45 deg view and you can clearly see the packaging effort

No effect. It was a quick shower, and plus no one's used the inters on the wet track, Perez used it as an installation on a dry track for God knows what reason.

Kimi and Ferrari winning the 'most productive day' award with most laps and best time while Merc wins the....
