Spanks is right, the intake looks larger on the McLaren. Though if you look closely, it's a bit misleading on the Mac, since the monocoque is curving inwards into the intake so it isn't as big as it looks at first glance.

I await the Mercedes unveiling....they'd be the ones to watch, as they'd be closer as to gauging their own engine requirements. Hopefully we get a decent shot of the sidepods.

I've looked at quite a few images of last year's car. The intake area for the pods/cooling are def smaller. Would make me think they are possibly using liquid intercooler - as speculated by others. No gills next to driver support that. Undercut is also bigger. No more vertical radiator, definitely slanted. The front wing looks like it's out wash, but the nose, for me, looks like it would work with an in wash fw. I think that isn't a real fw.

Nice comparison from @Owen.C93 at F1technical. Clearly shows how huge the pod intake on the McLaren is compared to the F14-T.

You're right, I spent some time looking this and the side of the pods are certainly larger on the McLaren, outwash wings are going to be difficult since so much of the tires are now in the way with the reduced wing size.

A great image showing just how compact and tight the SPs on the F14-T are...

Thanks spanks, that's a great pic.

The width is clearly pretty much the same, as is the height. The difference being the intake having more straight lines on the Mac (more curvature on the Ferrari) although in terms of drag doesn't the size of the sidepods matter? From what I see, they're the same except that Mclaren are making more use of the frontal space on the sidepod for their air intake which is certainly larger.

Absolutely not mate, the air going into the intake represents almost pure drag. The smooth surfaces where air flows over and around will have a much lesser drag while at the same time contributing to all important df. The striking difference is the size of the air intake area. You can expect that the amount here will be the min required to provide the necessary cooling for the radiators and intercooler. Somehow the F14-T seems to need far less for this - as I mentioned previously one explanation of this might be if they are using some for of liquid/air intercooler. If that was the case, the benefits may extend beyond the aero benefits derived from the sidepod aeros. An engine with better heat management will have better life and with 5 engines for the year, and less next year this also could prove a very important factor.

They might have certainly found a trick there, especially if Merc's chassis is similar to the McLaren.

Lol check out the exhaust I could fit my whole arm in there.

I like how they made clear that 100% of people who voted, voted.

I think all cars need the word turbo appended on, it sounds more menacing. The E22 Turbo, the MP4-26 Turbo

I agree Lemon. turbo is a great power word!!

And I really don't understand about the big nose holes at the front
