If you read my post you will see that I didnt mention looking for a high class driver, he has Vandorme, a rookie who is as good as Mag.

What I implied but obviously not put across very well was that McLaren being a top level team (In theory :nono: ) wouldn't want to go into a new regs era with two rookies, no matter how good they both look; you'd still want some experience on board.

I agree, I think McLaren's views on 2014 are the same as what Mercedes views were about 2013. Let's just build the foundation for next year. I don't however think they'll have the same unintended success Merc saw last year though. This "new" McLaren is all about the 2015 renascence with Honda. I hope Magnussen is there to see the beginning of it. Don't know who he'll be paired with, certainly not Button.

2014 is likely a write off and rebuilding year. Thats why it would make sense to test the rookies now or as soon as its clear Button isnt likely to help much.

Also it could bve that the 2014 programme is already in deep s*** and that is how Ron got back in. You would think if the 2014 car was looking good then Whitmarsh would stay CEO a bit longer.

All in all I agree that 2015 Merc style will be the target, however to be realistic it should be 2016 as the bedding in period of a new engine etc while the rest consolidate theirs doesnt promise a title.
And guess who will be almost out of contract by then?

What's obvious is the guy in charge thus far has mucked up. I'm sure everyone agrees on this......now.

What does a new guy do? Keep the same personnel? Keep doing things the same way? Obviously shareholders aren't waiting around too long since this isn't a small role, RD would want to make a few personnel changes, quickly. Replacing/Getting rid of the guy recently hired, by a team which fired him is a good start....guess who? And a driver who makes excuses faster than he drives is another one to look at.

Point being the team staff aren't as secure now as when Martin Disturbed was in charge.

Well I think for me the clue is that Ron has been trying to get rid of Whitmarsh for ages and unable to because of lack of support from the board.
Now he is finally in the driving seat there is no way Whitmarsh can stay. It would destroy the team.

"There will be changes," he told the staff during the address that lasted for 20 minutes. "We will win again."

Current team boss Martin Whitmarsh, who was not present for the address, remains in charge for now and sources insist that no decision has been taken yet on whether or not he will be replaced.

The only thing to do after any hostile takeover or coup is to claer out the deposed guy and all those who were loyal to him or protected by him. otherwise you get a faction situation

How many people were loyal to MW? It's clear to see that since he's been in charge McLaren hasn't been performing at the level it should be.

It's no fun anymore making fun of a guy's mediocrity when he's doing it himself. :(

yeah, very poor show, He will probably quit now just as we were getting ready to have a real pop at his mediocrity :hehe:

Note to the Mods: can we add the :duckie: to the title of this thread, Jenson would be proud of that

Being able to laugh at yourself takes the wind out of the sails of those who would criticize!! :D

When does Ron officially take over? I imagine that he already has an agenda and things will happen fast. Don't think Jenson has to worry about this year, his substantial will be enough to keep in place. He's too expensive to pay not to drive ... unless some sort of deal/swap could be made. It will look really bad if after all this bluster, nothing much happens.

If Jenson has another mid 2012 'cant set up the car, cant find the grip, cant adapt to the torque, my rookie teammate has overtaking me again' period, Ron will ship him out so quickly Fedex will break new records for delivery.

Ron is not known for tolerance when it comes to drivers even thinking about underperforming

If Jenson has another mid 2012 .... my rookie teammate has overtaking me again

Firstly that's very harsh on Lewis. In 2012 as a WDC (and +5yrs in F1) I wouldn't be calling him a rookie.

And whatever problems Jenson had, he finished 2012 a mere 2 points behind the guy you rate as the best on the grid.
