Plenty of real fans on this site. But if the going gets tough there's always the McLaren fan sites.

But you know in f1 one you have to learn to take the rough with the smooth, it's rarely all one way traffic.

Talking McLaren fans and lack of posting in this thread Racechick. At the end of the day I thought id get the thread back on a lighter topic without the constant negativity from still bitter Hamilton fans. Something McLaren fans may actually enjoy reading about.

Whether it was a repost or not was irrelevant, not everyone may have known about it.

That's very true. I repost stuff without realising and it was a good thing to post. Well Im really hoping McLaren do sort out because if they'd do they'll be back to my second favourite team, favourite again if Lewis returns!
But I can't. See that happening for a few years. McLaren were my favourite for AGES, but that was when Ron held the reins.

Following F1 should be about following sports, following the sportsmen, following the drivers

Following teams is a nonsense really, a bit like watching basketball and supporting Addidas or Nike or supporting vodaphone. The f1 team is no longer a sporting entity but a marketing company

Normally a team like McLaren have a certain tradition including the drivers they employ and fans end up following a team. And when Senna, Lauda, Hakkinnen, Raikonnen turns into Button, Perez

Then to keep selling merchandise to real fans things like tradition and nostalgia and heritage have to be brought in

Not sure how following a team can be compared to following a sponsor??

At the end of the day, it's a TEAM sport! And, that is NOT nonsense!
The TEAM designs/tests the car in the off-season! The TEAM builds the car!
The TEAM services/maintains the car before, during and after a race/season!
The TEAM develops updates! The TEAM gives the driver the car to race with!
The driver is PART of the TEAM!

With basketball Nike supply design and build the equipment for the sportsmen to play with, Bauer supply the skates for hockey team but no one supports Nike or Bauer

What sporting talents are there in building a car? Do the best athletes feel part of the industry that makes the running track?

You're comparing Nike and Bauer "accessories/equipment" to building an F1 car?
Seriously?

Any basketball / hockey / soccer / tennis / etc. player can use the equipment
made by "any" supplier. Shoes / skates / track suits / jock straps do not enhance
the athlete's natural ability, thought it make enhance their appearance.

F1 is NOT the same, is it? Without the car and the team, the driver goes nowhere,
literally. Without the driver, the car and the team go nowhere, again, literally.
EACH of the three components of this intricate relationship is completely dependent
upon the other two for success.

Though there isn't any "sporting talent" per se, in the designing of the car, without
the car, the driver goes no where!!

p.s. Just in case you think I've forgotten, the track is an "accessory"

To be fair ice skating without skates is impressive!

People support a team because it is a team that is in front of people. What cooking is trying to say is no one supports Brembo.

The old extra socks trick? I thought women had worked that out a long time ago :hehe:

Without the car the drivers would get out and run, first over the line, coincidently an old sporting tradition itself

-> Personally, I never needed extra socks!! :P
-> If they're on foot, they aren't drivers!!

McLaren to reveal the MP4-29 on 24th Jan online. So this could be good or bad news.
Bad news is there is no sponsor, Would a title sponsor be revealed at an online launch after the team delayed the announcement and said they wanted to reveal the new car and sponsor for PR reasons

Good news is that the sponsor is someone like Sony afterall and they are gonna do something spectacular online in keeping with Playstation games etc

What do the real McLaren fans think? This is what Whitmarsh said when delaying the announcement
At the start of the year the team said that it would be replacing Vodafone in 2014, with the new sponsor set to be revealed on December 2. However, team principal Martin Whitmarsh has now said that the announcement is likely to be delayed.

"There will be some new sponsors, but I think probably, and I don't know because I haven't talked to our PR function, but there will be more of a fanfare at the car launch rather than an announcement on December 2," he told the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes phone-in.

"I think it depends on what partners want to do and where they want to do it. My own view is that we would be taking away from what I hope will be an exciting car launch next year, but we will see."
