Abridged version:

Gordon Rayner & David Chazan  wrote:">Michael Schumacher's ski helmet was 'broken in two'
-> showing signs of improvement after a second operation

-> reported that he hit his head so hard that his ski helmet "broke in two".

-> condition has stabilised after a "really big" internal bleed was drained, easing the pressure on his brain.

-> surgery to remove a haematoma (a pocket of blood) from the outside of his brain on Sunday. A scan on Monday showed that another haematoma inside his brain had "unexpectedly" reduced in size. This meant that surgeons could carry out a two-hour operation that night to drain the second blood clot and further reduce the pressure on the brain.

-> Prof Payen said the 44-year-old German's condition had "slightly improved" and was "relatively stable". He added: "The more hours he spends in a stable situation, the better it is."

-> still many haematomas in the brain, with little bits everywhere. That is what makes the situation critical and it needs to be looked at hour by hour, day by day. We won't be able to evacuate the other haematomas at the moment because they are not accessible. They are not as big as the one we removed yesterday."

I can not imagine that MSC would of had to but a low cost helmet. you got $100 head put a $100 helmet on it!

Then again how many people would know a good helmet if they had one or not. maybe it had been damaged in transport. I don't think we will ever know

Apparently:

wrote:">http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/news/formula-1-schumacher-shows-39-slight-improvement-39-100047436--f1.html Kehm also added that Schumacher's helmet - which doctors credited with giving the driver a chance of survival - had cracked in two during the accident. Helmets are designed to crack on impact in order to absorb force.

Good old Schumi, makes sense the helmet breaking when assuming the force. Poor chap must have landed head first with helmet taking the shock

I wonder if the journalist could be prosecuted for attempted murder. It sounds outlandish but imagine MS had slipped out if his coma and saw a priest he might have thought he was getting the last rites and that would not help his recovery

Maybe we should start a which hunt

Money makes the world go round, not morality.

Unfortunately many people out there are able to sleep at night no matter what.

When you buy a racing helmet, they are very specific to say that the helmet should be replaced if you're involved in an accident where the helmet absorbs an impact even if it looks undamaged.
