This tells me one of two things. a) the RedBull engineers are sick of winning, and want an actual challenge next season OR b) the RedBull engineers LOVE winning, and know where RedBull are with next years car, and know its not good enough.

So Redbull will either win or lose! Maybe a 3rd option, they have followed the big green dollar wages

The thing is that it will take a while for a team to gel. Especially if you are bringing someone into the upper echelons. Everyone will need to know how that person wants things done. Plus some teams/people adapt quicker to change

This is true, but the staff Ross put in place have gelled and are working as a team, and it's already bearing fruit. The new ones from Red bull won't be involved immediately but if they whisper the words..."2 secs a lap, you do this....." They will have earnt their money even if they contribute nothing else for another year.

They won't be moving for a while, but they are no longer assets to Redbull. Which is also a very important factor.

Also, there is nothing RBR can do to prevent them 'consulting' the Merc design team even before they move. On gardening leave, a lot of helpful info can be passed by email etc. Not saying they would ofcourse, however I am sure F1 is no stranger to a team suddenly producing a car that has features on it from another team whos departing engineers are yet to start at the new team. One adrian newey springs to mind.

If one was the cynical type, one could even speculate that its possible for secrets to have been passed along at the time of (in return for?) the contract signing

How much of the 2 second car info will be relevant to next year?

Admittedly they will have seen a lot of the rb10 designs

Just knowing about the previous traction control, flapping wings, cockpit height adjuster, and any ideas that Newey has for the 2014 car would go a long way for securing that contract.

Ross on Mercedes, where they are and the next season cars. "Very little carry over...clean sheet of paper...." He says.

He also says Merc are in good shape.
