I doubt anyone here actually heard him say anything. Motorsport.com report this for the non Italian speakers. Anyway it sounds like something Monte would say so thats good enough

On a more positive note, what a gorgeous looking car, ofcourse it may be a photshop job, but lets hope they come prepared to race next year and leave the petty tit for tat stuff for later in the season

Well it's certainly not real, Goodyear tyres!

This is more in line with what I was hoping the cars would look like, but I think we're going to see a lot of teams still looking to get air flowing under the car so making the nose thin and the ugly that's being talked about.

FIA should just change the rule that they can't do that to the nose and get around it another way.

If that is a fair estimation of what the new Ferrari will look like, I'm sold. Hopefully the new Mercs will look just as fine. BTW I will not be the least bit disappointed if the new turbo engines are significantly quieter. The sound of the off-throttle Renault was one racing sound I NEVER want to hear again. :coffee:

For me its less the absolute volume and more the mechanical madness and complexity that dumbfounds the brain. 20,000 rpm was working just fine. Apparently even though we are now down to 15k the fact that 6 cylinders feed into 1 exhaust instead of 4 with the V8s mean the frequency will sound higher pitched. Then the electrical stuff and the wastegate dumping adds more flavour.

All in all these powerunits could be all different enough to make it all exciting again.

Possible.

Will engines only run at 15k in max energy consumption mode? If so, how many minutes of the race will a driver be able to run in that mode? I'd guess we will hear the difference - hopefully from the engine and not the pit radio

It will be easy to tell with the on screen telemetry.

Can anyone good with math do some number crunching? 100 liters of fuel per race is 26.4 gallons. Today's V8s (although I can't confirm) run 300 lbs of fuel. But 100 liters is equal to 76 kg, and that's only 167.5 lbs. Little over half... So either these engines will indeed be VERY efficient, or like spanky says, they'll be in serious fuel conservation mode if they're not.

But you will have all that extra 'free' power from the ERS and the turbo so the increase in efficiency over the NA engines is not a direct correlation.

Merc are already well within the target parameters. could be interesting seeing the Merc cars lapping the others over and over again because they ran out of fuel :hehe:

The amount of fuel isn't relevant. It the regulated energy flow rate that will force conservation mode for most of the race.

KERS today is 85 Bhp for 6 seconds. ERS will be 150 Bhp for how many... I think 10? More maybe? It's still a lot to say they'll be using just over half the fuel they use today.

Surely having a set fuel flow rate per hour as well as an overall quantity of fuel for the race means that they are less able to save fuel over the race?

Is the specific gravity of unleaded .76?

I am sure I read somewhere that current fuel tanks are circa 150kg
