I've never personally said he's an unworthy champion, there are however a lot of fans and the PR machine claiming him to be the greatest, which is just as absurd a claim to make.

You can't play the what if game, for example what if Glock stayed ahead of Lewis in Brazil 08? Lewis would be 0 from 2.

Which is why statistics only tell 58% of the story. Would we then say Massa is as good as Raikkonen or Mansell? Or Alan Jones or James Hunt were better than Hamilton? If we're measuring Vettel's, or anyones, talent in WDC then it doesn't hold up for very long as an accurate measuring stick. It's a starting point, not an end.

Personally I don't see the point in comparing eras as there is no definitive answer and only peoples opinions to differentiate the drivers.

Futile task.

I hear you; but, it's not the first time, since I started following F1 that this has happened!
At the risk of raising hackles, the British media did the same thing with Hamilton! If you
didn't follow F1 and happened to read anything about him, you could be forgiven if you
concluded that he is the Second Coming!

I'll apologize in advance, as I realize that Vettel is "persona non grata" and to compare
him to Hamilton is to incite the wrath of Hamilton's fans. That is NOT my intention!!
Just wanting to point out that this isn't a "unique" phenomenon!! :wavey:

Atleast he was a rookie taking it to world champion in equal machinery. It was OTT but a little more understandable. Britain only really embraces champions if they're popular and there's a bit of drama, and when they do it's on for young and old.

Exactly, only peoples opinions ultimately define greatness. And so far more people seem to have an opinion that a 4x WDC is not proven than ever seen before. Booing and numerous popular polls show us this and there is nothing the RBR pr machine or some stats or some isolated pro Vettel fans can do to change this. The next few years might change things but it has to be said that at present he is not a convincing great in popular pinion

Would anyone call Justin Bieber a great musician? Compare his records sold/success to other singers and rockers of today....if you're purely a stats person thinking it's the end all for arguments, you'll be crying when you reach your conclusion.

Just sayin.

Just read this on Sky F1's site and thought it was quite interesting.

Although he has never actually won in the wet since his first two GP wins for Toro Rosso and Red Bull respectively in 2008-2009, Vettel is typically unfazed about the idea of a more unpredictable race.

Why the heck wouldn't he be 'unfazed', he could've packed up and gone for a holiday 5 races ago. This is just fulfilling a contract with his employer.

And picking up a couple of other records, no?

When your car has an advantage over every other car of sometimes 2 seconds, it would be hard to be fazed by much

I'm betting ""if"" there are any sort of illegalities on that same car,
he'd be fazed by having his season wiped clean of wins and records!!
