Nico hasn't been stuck behind other cars. The Mercedes is particularly bad of late in that dept. It's also very slow out of corners. The problem has been that Hamilton needs to put the car high up the grid and be the first second place car. In a few laps be 3 or 4 seconds behind Vettel which is almost like running in clean air and the car will be able to give its all. That's what should have happened in Abu Dhabi but after qualifying it wasn't going to happen with the entire suspension bring rebuilt.

If you think about it, there were some races earlier in the year where Rosberg seemed very quiet and mired in the midfield, possibly the same reason, and that was when Lewis was getting his string of poles, so he was less effected then. That car has seemed exceptionally slow in a straight line behind other cars of late, and as you say WB, slow to get the power down out of corners. Odd. Hope they can sort if out.

Nico has been lucky with being in front, having first pit stop and just getting in front of a couple of cars.

Also I really hiope we are not seeing the influence of Paddu Lowe playing team boss, because the team have since looked like Mclaren, with obvious mistakes and general haplesness

Not like Ross to take 3 races to recognise a configuration disadvantage

Well as long as Sam Michael stays away, Mercedes should be safe. If anything, their pitstops at Abu Dhabi were stellar. :D

As an "outsider", I have to say, it's interesting how Rosberg is "lucky" to be at the front, this year;
whereas, last year, it was because he was the better driver!
It would seem to me, as an "outsider" that Rosberg's success is measured subjectively in relation
to whom he is driving against... or is that with?

Rosberg has driven brilliantly, that doesn't preclude him from sometimes having luck on his side. The last two races haven't been good ones for Hamilton, let's talk a look.

Last race his car broke on a lap where he has 4 tenths up on his previous time, pit wall getting excited. He end fourth and would likely have been second. Whole different ball game then.

Race before, he gets into second place , takes avoiding action when Seb makes an error and looses out to Nico and Massa.

Those incidents were fortunate from Rosbergs point of view and very costly to Lewis.
That's how it goes and it's to take nothing from Rosberg. He was there when it mattered.

I hear you; but, that's not Rosberg being lucky, so much as it's Hamilton being unlucky!
There is a difference, unless the assumption is that Rosberg could never beat Hamilton?

Well I guess in this game one mans luck is another mans bad luck, and vice versa. No I don't say Rosberg could never beat Hamilton, he has done already excluding those last two races.

Yes the stats tell us Lewis tends to beat Nico in qualifying when neither have problems. Simply put Lewis is faster than Nico in q3 on average. So going by the law of averages sagi, Nico was lucky to have been ahead of Lewis at the first pit stops on the occasions mentioned

Or put another way, Nico was lucky that Lewis was statistically below par, or unlucky or whatever else caused the standard deviation that placed him ahead of Lewis on that occasion

Or put yet another way, for the context of the remark about the Merc not being able to overtake, Nico was simply lucky in that he didn't need to overtake as the cars in front of him wear much faster unlike Lewis who was unlucky in finding out that the Merc struggles to overtake Saubers

Let's just say Nico is a lucky chappie as well as exceptionally fast
