I'd be inclined to agree with him. Ferrari and Lotus have been pretty stagnant over the last few years, and suddenly when Pirelli comes with a new tire, they reach a new level of success.

On the flip side, I would also say RBR "got lucky" with Pirelli reverting to 2012 tire construction.

RB got very lucky. Brundle seemed incredulous during that chat with Horner during the Abu Dhabi race that not only was Vettel fastest but kinder on his tyres too.

These cars love to run in clean air. So running up front can net you a lot more laps, but what was fascinating to see about Vettel's times they weren't dropping. His times on options were as good into the deep teens as cars that had pitted earlier can come out on fresh primes.

This is worrying. brawn thinks the. Red. Bulls will be dominant next year as well.

Maybe when you get so used to winning you assume there's no luck involved, just genius.

One would have to be careful patting themselves on the back,
you can strain all sorts of muscles if you do it long enough!!

ESPNF1:

Nico Rosberg says he is not concerned that Red Bull's recent dominance could carry over in to 2014.

Sebastian Vettel has taken victory in the last seven races and won by over half a minute in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. While Rosberg finished third - 2.8s behind Mark Webber - he was never in contention for victory but when it was put to him that a two-second deficit could be difficult to overturn despite the new regulations, he insists Mercedes has no concerns.

"I don't think it's two seconds at the moment, I think it's less than that," Rosberg said. "OK, maybe at times [in Abu Dhabi] but anyway, I'm not worried, no, because it's a great opportunity because it puts everybody back to zero, so on the contrary, it's actually better this way. Everybody starts from zero.

"We have such a strong team now, it's been built up over the last four years, they already did a fantastic job last winter from 1.5s a lap slower. At the beginning of this season we were sometimes the quickest car without a regulation change, so they did an amazing job last winter and I'm confident that they can do it again, for sure.

"And again this year, we had some weaknesses which we've learned from and are trying to continue improving and then I'm very sure we can have a good season."

Hm, he openly contradicts his boss - will be interesting to see who's right, Nico or Ross?

I'll take Ross' opinion over Nico's on this matter. Nico is just flat-out wrong when he says everyone starts from zero. Many aerodynamic concepts (RBR's strong suit) will still apply next year.

I'd agree with that. Much as I like Nico! I think Ross is closer to the mark on this.

Lots of aero concepts carry on, however without an engine that lasts the race and powers the car, the extra 0.5 sec from best aero concepts will just be a work of art

That's the whole idea, the power units will cause changes across the grid and therefore if there was gonna be a 'reset' this is when it would happen. Aero doesn't bring more speed than an extra 100 bhp. And the incremental advantages produced by Neweys cleverness will be pretty irrelevant with the new regs

Everyone now knows how to shape a car for downforce, the clever stuff like blown diffusers that many were slow to exploit has been abolished.

This is a forced return to power and mechanical grip. The only 2 sec advantage will be there

Ross Brawn is being provocative, IMHO , there is no way aero and design within the regs can bring the time a good engine and car bring. Let's remember that engines have been frozen for years allowing gains to come from aero

So unless he means Renault are carrying over some tricks Merc haven't thought of RBRs 2 sec advantage won't be carried over by the same aero tricks
