Then again I suppose Hamilton turned up to a top team and then run it down then jumped ship so I suppose it works all ways

Except Hamilton could have won last year if the team hadn't been so focused on making button look reasonable, and Lewis having his car break down so often from the lead. Oh and the pitstops and the poor strategy and the underfuelling....shall I go on?

RC I like how I can pick out your comments on The Judge 13 on the posts about Button. :hehe:

It still took him 6 years to run it down, and by the 4th year he had a lot of help from "The Pro @ RunDowns". :groucho:

How did he run it down though when the car was the fastest at the last race before he left?

he was part of the reason the 27 was the best car when he left. Lets remeber that Button said the 27 was the worst Mclaren he had ever driven and that the 28 would be good as he had a lot of input.

lewis arrived at Merc and they have become one of the fastest cars

nah, button made his own bed, even Sergio said at the start of the season that the 28 was suited to button.

the 28 is irrefutable proof of buttons influence on car evolution

Magnussen for Button...

That would be the forward thinking, eye on the future decision. But Whitmarsh is making the decision........or is he?

Whitmarsh is, which means he will chose the wrong one.

After suffering one of your worst ever seasons, you'd think that the TP would be a lot more willing to shake some things up and bring yourself back to the front, look at Williams, end of last year and most of this year they've been restructuring the entire company; getting new cash flow and even got rid of Senna to be replaced with a rookie; it may not be upfront and public but they are making significant changes. McLaren seem content on just sitting there letting Martin not change a damn thing.

Martin has his obsession and he won't let go.....for whatever reason...like a dog with a bone. Who knows where it will end.

Who said he's not changed a thing? Under his leadership, he ousted that louse Hamilton, and Lowe for good measure. He brought in William's finest and they'll have a new, highly anticipated title sponsor announced shortly.

That's a lot of changes.

Ousting Hamilton and Lowe isn't exactly an inspired move, William's finest was a designer who's several years worth of attempts netted one win and a sponsor was needed as Vodafone are pulling out, rather than him looking for new cash flow, and that was probably more done by the board TBH.

Yes he's changed things, but not at the urgency that he needs to in the team, he needs to set about creating a new McLaren era, but instead keeps just trying to keep things going the way they are. After last year and this year I would be saying bye bye to Jenson, bring in some new blood and get the ball rolling. It's a shame really, cos' I reckon Ron is on that board just kicking himself.
