Standards, talk about standards. One guy is not happy with points, another is happy going up a Scotsman's bum and being all 'cozy' with it.

Agreed. But this is what is really disturbing for a team with McLarens history. The TP tells us that Button who messed up quali, then crashed into another car resulting in zero points has done well for the team, while the junior who qualifies impressively and salvages points was disappointing. Jenson was unlucky to incur damage? And drove beautifully? by preserving tyres at the back?

This is mind boggling stuff. Bruce McLaren should be proud because Buttom finished 12th after crashing? And the kid who saved the blushes isn't beautiful because he only scored a couple of points?

This is bordering on criminality, I feel like calling the Feds to investigate the mediocrity that has high jacked this team

Checo was unfortunate in that he spent a lot of the race stuck behind slower cars - and, although he showed his fighting spirit at the end by passing Adrian for ninth place, ultimately his was a disappointing result. Jenson was unlucky to incur front-wing damage at the start, as a result of contact with another car, triggering an unscheduled early pitstop. However, thereafter he did a truly brilliant job of tyre management, running the Prime for an extremely impressive 44 laps. Had that early mishap not occurred - and had he instead been able to drive the first 44 laps of the race on the prime - undoubtedly he'd have been able to finish very strongly and thereby score a decent number of world championship points. So that was a great pity, because as I say he drove beautifully and in my view a performance of that quality deserves to be rewarded with world championship points. But that's racing. From here we travel to Austin, where we hope that Formula 1 will once again put on a spectacular show in a market that's full of avid racing fans and is of course also crucial to most if not all of Vodafone McLaren Mercedes' many partners."

Had he been able to drive the first 44 laps on prime? He would have been amongst quick cars and would have had to actually drive and use the tyres you fricken gonad

:vomit::vomit: same old, same old. Same crap he talked when Lewis was there. ....'yes ok Lewis won but let's talk about Jenson' . Jenson Jenson Jenson. I feel really sorry for Checko , he's in a no win situation.

Its an absolute disgrace that this guy appears to have nobody to answer to

Jenson was beautiful by making a tyre last 44 laps even though he didnt score a point? We have a real champ on board, what a beautiful result, 44 laps at the back. We really showed everyone what Mclaren are about :yikes:

I like how only a certain, very specific group of people could read that as being a negative comment about Sergio. Bravo.

On its own you could say that its not such a bad statement bout Sergio 'it was dissapointing because he could have got even more points'

But in the context of describing Buttons drive its less uncomplimentary as plain ridiculous

2 lines to talk about sergio vs 8 lines to talk about jenson. Jenson crashed into someone, this is described as 'being unlucky to sustain damage as a result of contact with another car'

Seems jensons car decided to crash on its own accord and the senior WDc driver who qualified in 13th cannot for 1 minutes be ascribed any blame. And his 44 lap stint at the back was beautiful compared to his teammate who was actually in the wars with other cars actually racing.

no wonder the team is in this state when the sheep supporters find it acceptable to praise mediocrity

Well negative or not if looks like Perez is getting dumped in favour of Kevin Magnesson. So maybe the ' talk up button at all costs' and talk down Perez, is in preparation for that

Taking Magnesson..... inspired!

Keeping Button .......stupid!

Dumping Perez.......shortsighted and not fair.

Save Buttons money, settle Kevin and check next year then bring in Honda. But no. The love fest goes on.

There is still a slim chance Button will make way for Mag. Afterall he has not been confirmed.
It could be a power struggle within the team, with Whitmarsh trying to keep Button and someone else wanting to try Massa or Maldo for the transition year.

Neal for one has been more specific about pointing out that neither driver is finalised. Only button and whitmarsh have said that the deal is agreed

"I can't tell you when, but obviously it won't be too much further now when I hope we'll be able to clarify what's going on," Neale, the team's Managing Director, told the latest Vodafone McLaren Mercedes phone-in.

"Right at the moment we're focused on our preparations for this [Singapore GP] weekend, making sure that we wring every bit of learning out of the season and prepare well for next year.

"So that is our priority at the moment. That's not to say the drivers are a second priority, but when we have something to say we will let you know."

Neale, in response to a further question about whether the delay was being caused by McLaren talking to other drivers, added: "This is one of those industries and businesses, and this is that time of year, when everybody is talking to everybody, whether it's the technical staff moving around or whether it's drivers.

"So it would be wrong for me to speculate but we will get to it [confirming their plans] pretty soon."

One can only hope there is some common sense involved in the team

This is the part of the sport that I really don't care about. It's like watching a newly in love couple where everything they do is overly sugary sweet. :vomit:

I think next year is a year where experience counts. So whoever has experienced drivers will develop faster

Unless they're developing you down the wrong path. The winners in this day and age will be the ones that can adapt to the fastest car, not the ones that can develop a car that they can drive fastest.

No different than how today's fighter jets, the pilot is the weakest component that must be worked around.

RC I like how I can pick out your comments on The Judge 13 on the posts about Button. :hehe:

Please ask Benetton, BAR, Williams, Honda and now McLaren about how much 'experience' has helped them. :hehe:

Benetton taken over by Renault

BAR waves byebye and packs off.

Williams....right after they get rid of this guy they fight for Championships with JPM and the younger Schumi.

Honda...after years of mediocrity, gives the finger, gets bought over and Brawn skips between the regulations to produce one of the cheapest WDCs in history

McLaren....enduring their poorest season after their experienced drivers winter testing speech "This car is built according to my direction and the best McLaren has ever built"

And Whitmarsh is still in love. Sickening...the old "West McLaren Mercedes" which I admired for all those years is now a cheap chrome plated embarrassment with the weakest TP heading it.

Well said hamms

All those facts are well known yet there is absolutely no evidence of buttons experience on the plus side for developing a car. The second part of 2009 confirms Reubens extracting more from the car

Unless they're developing you down the wrong path. The winners in this day and age will be the ones that can adapt to the fastest car, not the ones that can develop a car that they can drive fastest.

 This. Say button cant handle turbo lag, cant adapt to torque steer, just like he cant adapt to warming front tyres quickly. what do the team do then? Try change the power unit to suit buttons needs? change the front suspension to push rod to help him warm up quicker?

Better to have a young adaptable charger than an aging 1 trick pony

Also whats the point of having the experienced hand for just one season especially when there will be another big change

Then again I suppose Hamilton turned up to a top team and then run it down then jumped ship so I suppose it works all ways
