He's the one that has to look at the other cars, not the other cars looking out for him. There was no way for Vergne to make a correction once he was committed to the line.

He made a bonehead move to try and pass both cars and it was EXTREMELY unsafe putting the lives of other drivers at risk. He would have overtaken the Toro Rosso easily in less than a lap being on worn primes and Alonso with new option.

It was a STUPID risk to take and he should have been penalized for it.

I agree completely. Your post just made me wonder at what point is he 'exiting' and the rule of exiting safely applies, and at what point has he 'exited' and therefore normal racing rules apply.

Should have been, but why not? Because it was Ferrari and their 'brand'? Or the stewards felt sorry for Alonso walking in like Hunchback of Notre Dame?

First of all, what no one can argue against is that Alonso GAINED an advantage going off track and overtaking ANOTHER CAR. I don't care if he had to fly over a live volcano to do it, he still managed to gain precious seconds by straightlining that corner and passing. "Avoiding a collision" was an excuse the stewards actually accepted??? F**k off, seriously.

These are my thoughts on the matter, we'll said WB. I was surprised by the stewards decision. It seems they are taking into consideration the differing tyre life's of drivers which should not be the case.
